Greets folks-

Just got back some hours ago from great weekend at Spring Mountain in Pahrump!

The weather was the bomb (almost as hot as), and the cars!!! Oh the cars! Ton's of P-cars and BMW's with a couple of others mixed in the crowd as well. (Not to mention some great instructors on hand too)

Angel had a blast riding with me, the owner of the track in his Radical, and his helicopter!

No parking lots or airstrip here folks, this track rocks!

As usual, check out the photos and video down below.

Johnny, I would be curious to know more about the format there. Was it individual time trials, laps with an instructor, racing with other cars?

Lucky!

Chas, depending on your skill level you will have an instructor and be making "fun" laps as these events are typically not timed due to insurance reasons. When your instructors sign you off to a higher skill level you can eventually run on your own in a way but passing is only allowed on the straights. Johnny?

*Was that Carl Buckland in the dakar E36? (aka: Dan's old car, aka: the original TS beta car) Lot's of TC Kline suspension goodies, SSR GT3 wheels...

Yes, this is correct. Instructors were on hand for those that wished to have instruction. There were some people there that had never been on a track before, and obviously some that live on the track. The morning hours were split up into three groups. Each group having 30 minute time sessions one after the other. It was A LOT of time on the track. After lunch (provided), sessions were open to all for open lapping. These sessions allowed passing on certain sections and only by you "pointing by" the person behind you. The later part of the day was open to all for passing anywhere. You maintain your line, if someone wished to pass, they go off line and execute.

A complete line of track workers and paramedics were there, so all you did was drive.

Everyone there was really professional and courteous with the exception of an EVO and STI that appeared to be out there pushing the Euro's a little (trying to prove something). But all that did was confirm there mentallity that is so often attached to the them. They were warned a few times for their driving etiquette. They made it very plain and simple there, this is NOT an ego event, it is a educational event. And true, no times were recorded.

The DINAN vessel was definately more fun than the E34 during last fall's visit. There was no problem keeping up with the vehicles, except of course in the turns. Both due to vehicle set-ups, and of course their driving experience (which was simply amazing by the way). There was a hand full of vehicles losing it on turns, I was one of them and darn it, didn't have the camera rolling. It was my first run with Angel, I think I was distracted by trying to relay to her turn in, apex, and turn out points and came into a turn real hot. Angel wants to become the next Danica Patrick now. Did I mention I love my wife?

JB, I do not think that was Carl's. I can't remember the owner's name, he was there the last time I was in the fall.

How'd the E46 M3 Comp do? I'm wondering if it's any better than a regular M3 on the track. Probably a very negligible difference.

I didn't have chance to really watch it too much, but from what I did see while video taping, it was very impressive. Granted the driver could very well be experienced, the vehicle looked real tight and solid on the turns. The exhaust is soo hush hush quiet! Needs a little wake up.

I agree. I hate the current trend of sport car exhausts... They are getting more quiet every year.
Of course it should be proportional... Nothing worse than a car screaming at 100 db and barely moving... (ie Exhaust on an Otherwise Stock Civic)

Case in point, If you heard the stock GT2 Exhaust, you would cry. :bawl
Doesn't do the car justice AT ALL. Porsche Should be Ashamed.

Are you talking about Brad? He's local. He came to the big meet we had at Fashion Place in April.
