I think I've probably asked you this before, but what suspension do you have, do you know the inches that it drops from stock, and what wheel and tire size are you running?

suspension:
Ground control coilovers (lowers approx 3")
Spring rates are 500 front and 750 rear
Bilstein sport shocks
GC camber/castor plates
Hartge sway bars front + rear
Sparco strut bar (front); Hartge (rear)
GC rear shock mounts

Tires/Wheels:
Hartge "style A" 16"X7.5;16"X8.5 REAR
Toyo proxes t1-s 205/50,225/45

note: camber is -3 front and -4.5 rear

Dang, that is a lot of camber. Aren't those very high spring rates? I've taken a ride in my cousins car with 400lb fronts and 600lb rears, and it literally hurts your guts on the street. He does have very agressively valved bilsteins, compared to the normal sports.

Ya it's kinda harsh...but who cares..it handles amazing anyway...
I need to get some new shocks anyways.I don't know how old mine are.:dunno

Yea, harder is not better! I just got a few springs to play aroudn with things, I'm accually thinking of going back to STOCK sway bars, and maybe 300/450 springs! It seams to be faster this way! The suspension loading is so much better!

Rob, with springs that stiff, I think your chassis is becomming the suspension! It is probably flexing more than your springs are! :laugh

You really don't want it too stiff, I think if the car is too stiff, and you are going over bumps, the car will want to hop, and lose traction, instead of compressing and rebounding.

If you watch the 1989-+ 1992 dtm videos, you'll notice the cars hopping everywhere.....why ? thats because the cars' suspension is stiff..

Now you ask why do you need a stiff suspension? Well the answer is because your car will handle a lot better ! If the suspension is soft, you'll get body roll more and the car will roll on a turn. You'll get more yaw when stopping as well. when I stop,my front end doesn not move an inch...!

For the street, yes it is harsh but I can handle it...... :)

But, you also have to think of it another way. Your car isn't a track only car, as the DTM cars are. Is yours a daily driver?

Also, with that stiff of a suspension, they had a full cage in the car. You could literally jack up a corner of the car, and open the door, and close it like normal. If you try that with a regular car, you will notice that the body flex will make it difficult to open and close the doors. With a suspension that stiff, I hope it isn't damaging anything with your car, just because there has to be a lot of body flex from your car since the suspension isn't taking the bumps.

I'm not trying to say that you are wrong here, it is just that there is a certain point where there can be too much. I don't want to nag or anything, it just seems like that would be a very stiff suspension. You should send in your bilsteins to have them reworked and revalved because they are most likely way too under-dampened with the springs that you have.

Rob, what kind of shocks are you planning on getting? Koni SA? Just wonderin because I was thinking about going Koni/GC.

I'm leaning towards revalving my Bilsteins. I keep hearing that everyone swears by the Bilsteins and that the Konis cannot hold up to abuse like the Bilsteins.

I don't know..........:dunno

When I was converting my suspension from my M3, the fellers at Ground Control told me that SA Konis wouldn't be able to handle much more than the 375/550 springs I already had.

I think I'd recommend revalving the bils -- probably a good deal cheaper than the DA Konis.

Who did you speak with at GC and told you that? I went up to GC and worked at their shop with Jay Morris on my suspension set up on my E30M3.

I am running 550/750 with Koni SAs. They work just fine. In fact I have ran them for two seasons now. The set up work great for both street tires and R-compound classes.

GC does not recommend you use Bilsteins with their set ups due to the bottoming out problem. They even publish a warning about it on their web site.

My recommendation would be to go to Koni SAs or Advanced Design if you want a double adjustable shock.
