just noticed on a trailer that 3 E39 (look like M5's but probably not) are wrecked in a car chase scene. :(

not M5's.. look at the mirrors though i am interested in how they did the rear exhaust. even Hollywood make rookie mistakes.

EDIT: second picture, square mirror.. not M5. i just looked closer and the rear exhaust is just that, an exhaust, not a true dual.

EDIT: looks like an M-Tec (not M5) front bumper - so maybe they were newer 540i's with a true exhaust on one side and just a fake on on the other. Who knows - either way it sucks to see em destroyed

Maybe the muffler flew off and out of the picture and somehow the tips stayed on? :D

look at the pic of the 5 series upside down. the exhaust leaves the front of the car on one side like a straight six. and then together goes along side each other on one side of the car to the resonator and then the exhuast like normal. and then there is this other exhaust just on there with a muffler but its painted wierd and the body looks painted a bit too. kinda like they just painted it silver after it was on the car

By the looks of the front headlights they are not even the newer 540's look at the front amber lights and the back lights with the orange turn signals. Maybe they are not ever 540's they could be one of the six cyl models, they just have the M kit. And it hurts seeing them destroyed.

When I saw the movie I was paying attention to those cars and one of them the hood fliped open and revealed the engine. I'm pretty sure there 525's

They are def. either 525s or 530s...in one scene the engine bay is exposed and u can clearly see its an inline-6 engine...

Does it make me a geek for watching that scene frame by frame? ...Anywho, they definately had quad exhaust but I didn't pay close enough attention to the under belly to tell if it was trully an M5 or just made to look like one. BTW.. speaking of e39s on screen [small screen in this case] while typing this, I just saw a commercial for Certified Pre-Owned BMWs showcasing a **beautiful Arctic Silver 528i.** [guess which car I have? ..heheh]

here's a link to some stuff you've prob seen already. No E39's (i thinks) but very entertaining indeed. yeah those cars are def 525's. No producer would be willing to spend the money to mod a few 528's when you can do it for less with 525's. I wouldnt be surprised if those M-kits were also make in Taiwan. Sucks to see em go, but it looks like god needed some cars.

LOL! These are not mistakes guys, they do what they can with what's available. There are artists who research very carefully what the specifics of these cars are. If there's a model already available that can be easy modified to look like what they need they will use it even if it's not perfect. They save money where they can. The effects are designed to fool the mases not the fanatics. I do this for a living so I'm very familiar with what's involved.

Don't forget brewtech, most of the destructo shots are CG. Most of those cars are probably still drivable, although serieously banged up.

You can't really be all that sure as in some shots the cars are CG and other times they are real and there could be differences between the two.

Looks like 528s with fakey passenger mufflers. As mentioned before, 525s never had the ambers and never had the seperate turn signal lenses, they were all post mini-facelift and had the turn signal-in-headlight lens thing. That was a cool movie though, surprisingly enough.
