I'm looking at purchasing a '99 528i with 160,000 miles on it. It looks, runs and drives like it has 20K on it. It has been maintained extremely well and has had only syth oil since it was new. Should I be scared of the mileage for $10,000? Any insight?

Not if it's been taking good care of. All the typical things seem to break or wear at the 75K - 100K miles range. If all has been replaced, like suspension arms, cooling system components etc, plus regular fluid changes, you shouldn't have anything to be afraid of.

$10,000 is a bit high for that mileage. yes it may have been very well taken care of, but high mileage is high mileage. try to negotiate it down a tad more

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm reaching for reassurance. I made the mistake of driving the thing, and now I can't imagine not driving it. It's the first BMW I've driven. Now I know what they mean by driving machine,160K or not.

I made the mistake of driving the thing, and now I can't imagine not driving it. I did the same thing before I bought my car. Test drove a 528 and fell in love. Then I drove a 540. 52what?

How does the 540 compare, or does it?

Quick question. Are the clear covers over the head lights part of the whole assembly or can they be replaced separately?

528 doesn't even compare to a 540i :nono
