Ronin was on tv today, and there is an awesome chase scene in it where Robert Dinero chases an e34 540i driven by the main female character. Dinero's stunt driver has some pretty good moves, as well the stunt driver for the female character. I was thoroughly entertained.

it's actually an M5 that the lady is driving (except for the crash scene, which looks like a 525).

Yeah, you're right. It's one of my favorite movies since it has the M5 in an incredibly long car chase. The continuity throughout the entire movie seems to be perfect aside from the small slip up at the end of that chase when there is a shot with some basketweave rims making it obvious that they used a lesser E34 for the really insane driving.

Yeah, I have that on DVD, it is one of the baddest-ass car DVDs out there, on the special features it says that the guy doing most of the hairy driving is an ex F1 guy, a frenchman named Jean Paul Jerrier. Another maybe underrated car chase is in an older film called "The Seven Ups" with Roy Scheider, what are your guys favorites?

It was badged as an M5, I slowed the movie down on DVD and watched it to make sure.

One of my favorite movies. That Audi is badass too.

I was just trying to figure out the same thing last night. In one part of the chase I thought I saw a blur of a badge on the right trunk lid...couldn't read it but it looked short like an M5 would. BUT when it finally flipped over and went off the bridge, the exhaust was a single CAT going down only one side of the car but 2 pipes coing out the back. I would think the M5 would have dual. Anyway, maybe they used the M for driving and the 525 for crashing....smart.

I also was trying to notice the steering wheel and instruments but couldn't tell from the limited scenes and difference.

Here is a site devoted to chase scenes, and they note it was an M5 and an Audi S8.

and a site that notes the mistakes in the car chase with the cars

The e34 M5 does have a single cat with twin pipes. Also note the turbine wheels of the earlier e34 M5, the //M shift knob, red gauge needels, and of course the engine sound. Also has the M5 lower body trim. Yes, the car that was wrecked suddenly had different wheels, smaller tailpipes etc, likey they wrecked a 525.

yea, you guys need to watch the dvd again (i got mine for like $6 hahaha), it's an m5. i agree, in the crash scene, a 525i or something else was used. iirc, if you listen to the director's commentary, they mention it's an m5.

Speaking of E34s in movies. Did anyone notice the E34 they used in John Q? They used an E34 to crash and kill a lady.... :nono
However, if you look carefully at that E34 you'll notice it's an early lower end model like a 520i or maybe even a 518i (no wonder she couldn't pass that truck in time), which were never exported to america.

Oh, that's a (newer) movie with I think Ben Affleck in it that features a black E34, I think a 535i. It's probably a totally gay ass movie, but I wanna see it because there's an E34 in it. Does anyone know the name of this movie?

In Love Actually when Hugh Grant picks up the girl from her parents house near the end and they are getting in his Jag there is a nice white E34 with AC Schnitzers in the background. Pretty hot.

I swear when I saw the E34 going through the tunnels, it didn't have any M5 bumpers or side skirts, now I have to go download the movie again, just to find out for sure.

But I do remember it having an M5 badge, which was weird.

You are pretty close to the city, I'll follow you with a camera...

I bet you that you can get more Air than that Mustang did going down those city streets, and Lombard will be no problem for you with your suspension, yo might only scrape a little.......

lol! Well, once I get that EAT chip things should be getting a little better. It's not that bad if you keep things over 3K rpm at all times, but when needle drops below 3K, oh jeez... The car should display a no torque alert on the dash cluster.

the new brad pitt movie, mr. and mrs. smith, has a chase scene with a few 3 series in it, not sure what model or years, i just saw the preview where one of em crashes and flips through the air. good enough reason for me to go see it though.

How about a recent Lost episode where that hot spinner chick Kate meets her old boyfriend who's now a doctor. They drove a E34 in a bunch of the scenes and she ended up crashing the car into a bunch of cops killing her old boyfriend and doing in the E34. Good TV I say.

Don't get your hopes up too much! The chip makes itself noticeable, but in the M20, its still far from satisfying.

in the film "The Bourne Identity", which also has a nice chase scene, there is a French E34 (yellow headlights) in there breifly, and (I think) the guy runs his beemer into it.

Not a e34 but "The Transporter" has some sick bimmer/merc driving scenes. Why is it that the bimmers always get destroyed in movies. I cried when it blew up, and whats up with the BMW in F&F2 crashing into the water barriers? Yeah f'in right!

635csi: It is an s38 for the e34 m5.

m specs: Gotta find the name of that movie. Would love to see it.

The car in ronin is not an m5. It has an m5 badge and wheels. No m5 body kit. As gameite stated, there is no m5 in any part of that movie. Still a sweet chase scene though.
