Not a dealer, just a good BMW mechanic that side jobs or has a reasonably priced shop.

YES! But I'm not sure how close he is to you. I'm actually from Champaign, (I drive to Chicago for all aftermarket parts), so I don't know much about getting around in Chicago. I go to Bruce Hollett who currently operates Autohaus5 (http://www.autohaus5.com/), which I think is by US Cellular Field. I think he's merging with another shop, but I don't actually know the details of that merger. Another buddy of mine who lives in Champaign also hikes up to Bruce's shop for stuff. Our dealer is truly fantastic, but it's not interested in doing any modifications. Bruce races an E30 M3 and instructs for the Windy City BMWCCA chapter. He's a great guy and loves cars. He's also a great driver. I highly recommend him and he's one of the few that I trust because he was my instructor before I started going to him for work.

Try this link. I've compiled a list of shops our club uses.

I heard not only they take your shirt, but make you bend over as well.
