:help Just took deliver on my 2005 3.0I Z4. Live in Florida and want something to protect front bumper especially from Love Bugs (anyone living in south along gulf coast know what I'm talking about). I am a little concerned about rock chips and etc. especially on long road trips. As you know anyone who drives a car can get a rock thrown at them even on a 1/2 mile trip to the grocery store. My biggest concern though is bug splatters as I live in a rural area. Any advice, option's, experiences, etc. concerning these alternatives would be greatly appreciated. Dealer 3M Scotchcal costs $595+tax, Bavarian do-it-yourself 3M Scotchcal $259.00 + shipping, Bavarian Colgan full bra with cutout $99.95+shipping.

The Colgan bra is cheap but will loosen over time. In about 2+ years of use, the hood bra is starting to "loosen" up so that it flaps about at high speeds (say, 90mph+). Also, the Colgan bra will scratch your paint if you're not careful putting it on/taking it off.

The 3M stuff is the way to go, but make sure you get a competent installer working on your car. I've seen some pretty bad jobs where there's a lot of bubbles and wrinkles in the invisible stoneguard type protection, and frankly it looks like @ss.

But if you're mainly looking to save $$$, the Colgan bra is a pretty good product for what you pay for.

I've got the Stoneguard installed all around and it works great. Have already saved myself from two would-be expensive rock hits in just over 1 year! I have the hood, front bumper, lights, behind each wheel well (alot more coverage than you'd expect), and rear bumper. It cost me a pretty penny of $500 or so installed, but even that was a great deal. :redspot

I would def recommend at least behind the front wheel well as they continue along to almost halfway below the door!
