does anyone know if the cam and crank positions sensors in the E36 use a magnetic (analog) pickup or a Hall effect (digital) signal?

JoeDQ 05-31-2005, 05:04 PM Ok, I have one member who says it is a Hall effect and one magnetic... anyone care to break the tie? LOL HansundFranz 06-03-2005, 06:18 PM I was diagnosing an M44 in a '97 Z3 today and noticed that the crank sensor is magnetic. I know all the front-mounted crank sensors, pre-OBD II, are magnetic. I think the OBD II-era sensors, post-'95, are too, but am not sure. Most camshaft position sensors are Hall effect. I don't know if they all are. |
