I have a left over (new) oil filter from a previous 1994 325i I owned. Can I use it when I change the oil in my current 1997 328is? I do know the part numbers are different.

the filters are the same but the filter housing caps are different. So you'd have to buy a new O-ring for your plastic cap or just reuse the current one.
