Kyle came out both friday and saturday to check out the DE/racing and shoot some pics. He crewed the hour long race for me on saturday, he pointed out yellow flags before I got to them and told me about oil on the racing line down the front straight. It was a big help, I qualified 9th but finished 4th overall.

Good thing you left on saturday, Kyle. Sunday sucked ass, rained hard all day. I'm not sure I'd call it racing but I got out there for 30 minutes, finished 9th of 15 cars and got lapped twice by the race winner. Tires and confidence are everything in the rain, I didn't have either.

Not at all racing, but I did some DE laps in the rain at Road Atlanta... while you learn all about smooth, good god, my ass hurt from being clenched. After I did an unexpected and quick 270 coming out of 10b... I brought her in...

You just have no real reference point to what your grip is really gonna be like, and the wet grass will do NOTHING to keep you out of walls. I imagine experience is the only way there.

Sounds like a blast. Glad you are enjoying it.

I had a butt clenching moment at T4 during qualifying. It was strange, I negotiated the uphill right turn fine but then applied too much power and did a 720 (two full spins), popped her in 3rd and kept going.

krisko,
Did you intentionally keep your foot in it, or was it luck that you got complete turns? I had one at VIR through the snake, where subconciously, when I started spinning, I gunned it and did a nice 360 in the center of the track and grabbed 3rd and kept going.

I looked like a pro, like I was showing off or something but it was complete luck. I lost it and started spinning to the right, I naturally assumed I was going to contact the armco about 10 feet off the right side of the track. I went two feet in (clutch/brake) then I realized that I was going straight and started thinking about how to recover. Towards the end of the spin I heel/toed into third and didn't miss a beat.

I'm not sure if the seat was wet from the rain or something else. :stickoutt

Hey Chris, it was my pleasure. :cool

It was really cool to get out there and see all the cars and people. I met some really awesome people and had a great time running around like a fool trying to find good places to get shots from, and crewing the race was fun! All the people around me on the viewing decks were asking me all sorts of questions about the cars (due to the headset), and luckily I had asked the same questions to either you or Ahmad earlier in the day so I could answer them. :D

I don't have many pictures of your car edited up yet as I worked with Ahmad's earlier today, and then celebrated Memorial Day in the traditional college boy way (what?) but I'll get on them tomorrow and send you some links. Here is a feeble attempt for now, but chances are I'll look at it tomorrow and laugh. :biglaughb

And to anybody who likes racing/cars (ie, everybody on here hopefully), come out to the July event at Road Atlanta! It's a really great atmosphere and you'll get to check out some seriously sweet bimmers.

Awesome! Glad you didn't put her into a wall!

Great pic too, Kyle!

I spun at T5 at RA last year (who hasn't?) and got both feet in and executed the most perfect 180. I almost looked like I knew what I was doing!

July is going to be bedlam...I'm hearing we might get 80+ race cars (double points weekend, cars coming from TX and points beyond). That's a great pic, better than the fekkin' so called 'pros' shooting the event.

I'm always surprised by the amount of non-contact spins that happen at T5, not a lot of wiggle room in there. I went for a spin in there and missed the wall by less than a yard.

Here are some more. I'm somewhat suprised by my photoshop prowess last night... doesn't look half bad.
