View Full Version : new water pump/fan delete install!
S52Mcoupe 05-28-2005, 11:49 AM I just replaced my water pump and did the fan delete mod to my car on friday. I recomend no one pay to get a water pump installed it was a extremly easy and if any one ever needs help with it PM me. Fan delete was prolly the biggest bang for the buck mod u can do, 60 bucks for a very noticeable difference. The car revs so much smoother and faster, and the engine is much quieter makeing the exahust sound better. Definatly thanks to Bret for all his help!
DrewKeen 05-28-2005, 12:23 PM Do you put an electric fan in place of the old mechanical fan or do you just rely on the one stock electric fan for cooling?
S52Mcoupe 05-28-2005, 12:48 PM Im relying on the one stock elec fan, even after driving the car extremly hard the elec fan dosent come on, the only time the elec fan ever clicks on is wen it has been idling for a good 5 min or soo. the temp is way below 12 Oclock much cooler than before the mod. so far im very impressed. Im driving up to lake burton today so well see how she fares on a couple hour drive.
aMiR M3 05-28-2005, 01:09 PM I drove an m3 with a fan delete from maryland to atl once and didn't have one single problem..that one electric fan is good enough. Plus you are running a much cooler thermostat so the coolant runs through much sooner and cools down...
DrewKeen 05-29-2005, 02:31 PM What temp. thermostat does it come with?
I've been thinking abotu doing this mod to my car, but I was scared it would run hot in GA heat since most of the guys that do it live in cooler places.
aMiR M3 05-29-2005, 03:54 PM We use e30 thermostats.I think 82 degrees..i can't remember right now but it's gonna probably be different for an m5 anyway..Ali and I have ran them for 3-4 years now with no problems..I even ran it with my supercharger and no problems and there is no way any NA car could reach the temps s/c cars do.

Oh hellz yeahh biznotch :buttrock
For the e36, it's an 80 degree thermostat, and a new fan switch as well. I only had one problem the two years I've been running the fan delete. The aux fan blew a fuse for no apparent reason and the temps started to climb. No damage. Popped in a new fuse and no trouble since. Freak thing I guess, as that was months ago on a relatively cool day. For those of you who are concerned about not having a second fan, you've got two options.
1. Aftermarket Fal, or similar electric fan.
2. Do what I'm doing.... and take one of the many e46 electric fans with the burned out resistor pack, remove it, grab the leads to the fan, wire in a pair of 30 amp relays and trigger it off the fan switch. with a little minor modification the shroud, it can adapt rather well and have plenty of clearance. Not to mention it pushes a lot of air running wide open!

Oooooh. You got jokes now, huh? Next time I'm going to stuff you inside your tranny before I put it back in. :devillook
Despite the BS, it was pretty fun ass raping your car for all it was worth. I still wish you would have run it into that curb one last time, just for the fun of it. :D

Yeah, the damn thing wouldn't stop leaking while I was trying to get the a/c comp out, and mine was low anyway... :D
Good times, Good times. I still think we should have left notes hidden all over the place for whoever buys it from the salvage sale. :evil2
