Hello, i have a 88 735il. It is pretty much stock, except when i was in Germany i went to my mate who works at M and he made me a custom chip for it resulting in a very noticable gain in performance.

The car is adequately fast, propelling from 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds, and it is an auto.

I am on a tight budget, what further modifications would you recomend to get a bit more power, especially at low speeds? What are some cheap mods i can do that will not destroy the 'bimmerness' of my car?

Thanks for your help, any advice would be much appreciated.

Why not look at a 735i? they are almost as fast, and with a bot of work can be very fast.

That was you telling someone why he shouldn't get a 750 and now you are asking how to make your car fast?

Put a V12 in it :)

when i joined bimmerforums about 1.5 years ago under another name, it was a great respectful place where you could get information easily without being critisised.

Now it is just another crappy BMW forum, full of MOSTLY unhelpful dickeheads who just want to proove that they know more than u, and not help u at all.

It is just sad.

(sorry to all the true people out there)

Uh, based on those two responses, you blast everyone else? (and those were pretty tame...)

Well, ignoring your apparent sensitivity to attempted humor, swap out your diff for a higher (numeric) one. I did this in my former E28 535i, going to a 3.73LS (from a 3.25LS) and it made a nice difference.

Look for an E30 325i, especially the convertibles, and try to get one with relatively low miles. You can always have a higher mileage unit rebuilt, too.

Hope that helps, now lighten up!

Yeah, I think you should lighten up as well. It does get kind of annoying, and I'll admit, on occasion I do it myself, to recieve responses that are not helpful and are just merely sarcastic or something of that nature. I try to make sure I add something useful into the discussion so that my humorous remarks will be more appreciated, just a simple strategy I'd like to share with everyone else. I thought I'd give my own 2-cents on the issue (is it?).

a 535'er myself

You have a smorgassboard of stuff available to you

EAT Chip
DINAN transmission kit (i saw one somewhere)

Exhaust...big difference in a high flow cat
Intake..meh

In real life the m30b35 is good for about a max of 240 crank hp. It will do amazing things, but 260 is generally realized a fter only some port work.

Metric mechanic makes some wicked-ass stroker kits, but look for 4 to 7 thousand. That might be a big improvement though considering moving the extra flesh of the e32 L chassis

TCD for me

You want to make the car go faster for cheap.

That's mutually exclusive. It's a heavy car with not much over 200 horsepower. Making a 735i go real fast is possible, if you spend a ton of money.

Nothing against E32 735s, I happen to own one, but if you want to go fast in a BMW, this is probably not your best choice.

Its not as slow as a 20 year old e23 735 ;)
