View Full Version : Get your Toyo T1-S tires while you can...
vinnymac 05-26-2005, 12:13 PM I just ordered a set of (4) Toyo T1-S 235/40/17's from The Tire Shoppe. They were only $117 each + shipping.
He informed me Toyo pushed up the T1-R release in North America (June 1st) so the T1-S stock will be phased out sooner than originally planned.
So, order your T1-S's now if you need some.
slcook54 05-26-2005, 12:58 PM Thanks Vinny, if you happen to get the price for 245/35/18, let me know, I might just order a set early.

My old price list shows $144.77 for 245/35/18 T1S's...but I know everything went up slightly recently.

Same, thanks
-ursa- 05-26-2005, 02:25 PM Will the T1R retail considerably higher than the T1S?
I need a set of 4 T1S's in 245 40 17 pretty soon...
does the Tire Shoppe have a website or number?
SilverBeam 05-26-2005, 02:34 PM If it means anything, I was quoted 672 for 235/40/17 T1Rs mounted and ballanced. So 168 a piece.
99DakarM3 05-26-2005, 02:40 PM DHL just dropped off (2) 235/40/17's & (2) 245/40/17's from Edge Racing for a little over 600 shipped and I had to pay tax as a FL resident. 117 a piece is a great deal if its true, anyone needing tires should jump on it.

that's a sweet price for T1S.
T1R isnt supposed to be $5-10 more than "prior" T1S pricing..... at least that's what Im told

I think I can swallow the extra $ for the T1Rs if they are as good as everyone is hyping them up to be! :stickoutt
SilverBeam 05-26-2005, 02:53 PM What is the website for this shop?
I'd jump on this if shipping and mounting will make it worth while. If not, I'll just keep it simple and order the T1-Rs from my shop.

fabby318 05-26-2005, 09:46 PM anyone have any info on these T1R's? Will they have firmer sidewalls than the T1's and still retain its light weight?

they have a different tread pattern to reduce uneven and premature wear.
SilverBeam 05-26-2005, 11:10 PM the price is up to 145 a tire. :az

I have a buddy who has one of the first sets on his RL.
Pattern is generally the same, slightly different near the outer edges of tire. You can see the difference here:
T-1S:

T-1R:

The biggest diffrence between the two is supposedly a stiffer sidewall on the T-1R, designed to eliminate the slower turn-in of the T-1S. Weight is increased only marginally.
fabby318 05-27-2005, 10:49 AM very nice, these TR1's look promising!

The R does have a noticably stronger sidewall than the S. But then again, I had the S' on a Miata and the R's are on the wife's 4,000lb car.
I had ordered a set of 245/45/18's in S form, but my dealer was not able to locate me a set...and told me I would be the first person in Ohio to get a set of the R's. So I ordered them. The cost was $6.00 more per than the S. He also told me that the R is a bit lighter than the already very light S...so I am pleased (the less unsprung weight, the better...people often overlook the tire weight putting all emphasis on wheel weight...huge mistake IMHO).
So far, so good. We have about 800 miles on the R. Should be interesting to see how long they last.
S or R? Can't go wrong with either.
ExLondoner 05-27-2005, 02:17 PM Some good input in this thread.
I've been researching tires and am leaning towards the toyo's T1S or now the T1R's and the Bridgestone S03's. Is there a big difference between the two in terms of width for a 245.

From what I can tell, there is little to no difference between the S and R. The R appears to "shoulder" out a touch more, but it may also be illusional based on the new tread pattern.
I've never had the SO3's before, but I have heard the grip, wet and dry, is amazing. Someday I'd like to try them. But I also hear they are one of the heaviest performance tire's on the market.
B3ND3R 05-27-2005, 03:03 PM I've heard the same thing Dave has about the S-03s.
Great tire, but heavy. And the price is about 40% more on average than the T-1S/T1-R.
I'm sure it is a great tire, but I just don't know if it is a 40% better tire than the already phenominal Toyos. I've been through 4 sets of T-1S in the past 3 years, and I can't see even trying anything else so long as the prices of the Toyos stay this low.
vinnymac 05-27-2005, 03:15 PM I agree with the comments about the S0-3's.
I ran them at the track for three events and they are fantastic on dry pavement and pretty damn good in the wet. They certainly offer some of the highest amounts of grip for street tire compared to the other brands.
However, they are pretty heavy...and really expensive compared to the Toyo T1-S.
99DakarM3 05-28-2005, 01:58 PM I've been running the SO3's for 3 years now and have finally decided to switch over to the Toyo's. I can tell you for a fact that the SO3's grip like hell, have amazing wet weather ability and have a good amount of 'feel' to them - to sum it up they were the only tires I would put on the car. The major disadvantage though seems to be the weight and the treadlife. I struggled to get 12000 miles out of the last set of rears, and have had to replace them after only 9000 miles (daily driving only) a few times as well. The SO3's also seem to be a bit heavy for the size of tire also. It may be more reinforcing in the sidewall or something because they have great turn-in and give lots of feedback, but 28lbs compared to 22 for the same size Toyo seems like a pretty good margin - just swapping tires will free up almost 30lbs of sprung weight.
I have yet to have the Toyos mounted - will do so after the holiday weekend. Once I get some wear and miles on them I'll let everyone know my thoughts compared to the SO3's.
