View Full Version : Good venue to play in Atlanta?
Justin95GSR 05-25-2005, 04:37 PM So where are the good places to play music around Atlanta. I am the manager for an up and coming band and we play at some some places in Chattanooga but are looking to get out and play abroad. The music KICKS ASS and I know that they can make it big if we can just get noticed by the right people. I just need to know some good places so that I can send a CD to them and see if they'd like them to come play. The CD only has 5 tracks on it, but they have another 4 or 5 new songs of which 1 or 2 of them is better than any of the ones on the CD now. Anyhow... if you want to hear what they sound like you can go to www.campnormal.com it has some sample audio on there. The sound quality on the site is Horrible.... the CD isn't like that...so keep this in mind as you listen. Listen to "Better Day" and "The Way you Make me Feel" .... I think those are the best on there :buttrock
Not looking for anything all that HUGE right off the bat... just some kind of bar that usually has lots of people at it and a stage or a music specific place that has a good envirionment. Oh and BTW...they play covers as well.... and THEY paly them to a T... I mean.. gooood. SUch as Godsmack, Nickleback, ACDC, and much more
BimmerKat 05-25-2005, 04:42 PM Try Masquerade (bit sketchy :dunno), Ten High, Smith's Olde Bar, Drunken Unicorn and there's a place on the East side whose name I can't think of...
That's all I've got off the top of my head. Unfortunately, I don't have speakers at work to hear what kind of music they play.
UberCoupe 05-25-2005, 04:47 PM Ten High below the Dark Horse, and Smith's Olde :cool Bar would be my suggestions.
Go to the Claremont Lounge and ask for Blondie. She will hook you up and your band will get the right amount of exposure.
jlruddy 05-25-2005, 05:33 PM Dixie Tavern in Marietta is also good.

It's not all that bad once you are inside but the surrounding area scares me (don't like leaving my car there).
I've seen more shows there than I can count.
Ten High and Smith's are smaller so they may be better options starting out.
Scott528iM 05-25-2005, 09:02 PM Oooh, Masquerade is a hole! I played there 10+ years ago as when it was Excelsior Mill and it sucked..moreso now. Yeah, you may get a "crowd", but the sound there is horrible, you won't make jack and the whole place is a friggin fire hazard.
The other places mentioned are good if you want to get to the downtown/midtown area, but you may also consider some of the bars out in the suburbs too...there are plenty of those and they generally pay a little better.
Athens may also be a decent place to try, but naturally it's further for you to drive.
The main point of advice that I would give you though is to play mostly covers and slowly introduce your originals. Most bars aren't interested in you "making it", they just want you to bring patrons in/keep patrons there so they can make money on alcohol. As a four piece you'll be very lucky to make $400 a night, especially since you're from of town and don't have a following per se. Most places don't have a PA either so if you have to bring one then you make consider altering your price if you can.
Let us know when they come down and I'll make it a point to try and come out to support you.
Good luck.
Driggers14 05-25-2005, 10:33 PM Wow, I just realized that you live in Chattanooga. I'm in Dalton for the summer and make it up to Chattanooga most weekends. PM me if the band is playing any shows in Chattanooga any time soon.
Zerrus 05-25-2005, 10:39 PM I would try Masq, you might get the people that would actually listen to that... Sounds like Nickleback trying to be metal... Not my cup of tea, but then again I'm called a music nazi a lot, so my opinion is very biased.

cause nothings changed in 10 years i'm sure???
i've never been dissapointed with the sound quality at the masq and i've been to many amazing shows there.
Anyways if they are playing at the masq they are probably going to be trying to open for someone anyways so its not like the crowd size is going to be dependant on them, its going to be the attraaction of the headliner.

Thanks, Tabasco. I thought I'd heard that somewhere, but I was starting to wonder.

Doctor Wha 05-26-2005, 03:49 PM both clubs (or at least variations of them) will be reopened -- in the unlikely locales of Underground Atlanta and somewhere in the northern suburbs.
:lol :lol :lol

alright? a ton of different types of bands play there.... i've seen everything from punk, ska, emo, to rock bands at the masq... and i know they used to have an 80's night.... you know me, i don't think i'm exactly a scary goth kid (and i'm certainly not overweight but i might be guilty of the pale part)
i've also been to the s&m chamber. now that place was weird as hell. but then again i was seeing the dead kennedies lol.
aMiR M3 05-26-2005, 08:25 PM I didn't mean anything against you jimmy..i just don't like that crowd...i have tons of friends who go there..infact they called me tonight to go to 80's night..and as usual..i declined..people have different tastes..that's one thing everyone on this board should know...;)
Ron17 05-27-2005, 10:26 AM I just saw Breaking Benjamin with The Exies and Silvertide at Masquerade last Thursday. Great show! It was burning up in there, though. That place is like a bonfire waiting to happen, I think.
Cwaters 05-27-2005, 01:01 PM I can get you a slot here this weekend:
