Can't wait to "test" that ///M huh??? :D If there is another, I vote for after the second week in June, going to NYC this week for a bit.. :D

Agreed.
I'm actually going to the Biltmore on the 12th of June so that's just in time. :)

After the last drive and the abundance of cops up there, I'm not leading any more drives. Too dangerous.

One pulled Craig over and said that they're not warning people anymore, but taking them straight to jail. No thanks.

It won't be as much a mountain drive as it will be a road trip. I'll be taking my mom and brother up to see the Biltmore with my wife and son, so I don't see me slinging the 7 around any corners with them packed in the car. :(

Were people driving like a$$es? If you're just in a caravan doing the speed limit and sight seeing, I don't see what they can do about that! :confused

Nah. We were asses last time. People were getting pulled over on 400 though. :dunno

If you want to go on a mountain drive, grab 2 or 3 more friends and do it. A large group like last time was way too much and way too noticable.

Exactly what I was going to say. A couple peeps (especially if you've driven with them before) is WAAAAAYYY more fun than a caravan of 30 cars.

More than likely it's going to have to wait until July for me. The first, third and fourth weekend of June I have Fri/Sat night gigs. The second weekend I'm in Ashville....
I think the only option in June would be if something took place on a Sunday, but after coming home at 4am from a show, I don't see be getting up "too" early on Sunday morn for a drive, but I'm open for suggestions.

A mid-week meet will be cool though.

Another option is to pick some new spots. The normal runs have been exhausted, and overrun by too many groups. There are many other roads to choose from that are just as fun, and a lot less populated. PM me and we can find some new routes for this year.

Seriously. I was surprised at how fast some people on 400 were going. I was showing triple digits to keep up with the main group, and my speedo reads a bit low...

Unfortunately I'm no longer in the ATL area. I'm now in south AL(pretty close to Pensacola, FL since lots of people seem to know where that is).

But yea, if you make it down here, you're welcome for a ride. It's quite a bit faster these days since I'm basically pushing the T25 for all its worth(was at stock boost against Aaron that one time).

Here's a crazy idea...

Get a bunch of bimmers to meet up at one of the PCA, SCCA, or BMWCCA auto-crosses. Instead of acting like a bunch of idiots on GA400 and such, why don't we actually try to become better drivers and compete against (and with) each other. You're using what the car was meant to be used for (twisties) and it's super cheap too.

I don't see why more people don't want to do this. Showing what your car can do on a standard course and performing as fast as you can is much more impressive than going 110 on the highway (which anyone can do in a modern car). To be honest, I find the actions a bit immature and part of the reason why BMW drivers get a bad name...

That sounds like a great idea. I agree with all the groups that go up there, I'd be pretty mad myself. We have hundreds of Japanese caravans, plus the VW clubs, plus BMW clubs.

New routes with less traffic sounds good. The places we go through do have residents, who I am sure don't like any one of us.

Some of us can maybe try to get new routes, and have just a nice drive day, instead of race day. I'll be up for it anytime.

we need to have a mountain drive, up to somewhere like vogel state park. either get a bunch of cabins for the night or hang out during the day and have a big cookout then drive back. :)

Not sure if this is addressed at me, but autocrossing just doesn't do it for me. I'm all for driving in organized events, but mountain drives are just an opportunity to have a relaxing but spirited drive through some beautiful mountain roads. Unfortunately, as much as it's stated that it should not happen beforehand, quite a few people intend on using it as a place to learn car control skills. Between idiots diving in on my line(in the incoming lane...) or just driving like sloppy noobs, there is a lot of stuff that occurs on the drives that just shouldn't...

So I see where you're coming from, but I just think it doesn't have to be this way. I guess that's why people talk about how it's much more fun to go in a small group.

I agree. Autocrossing is a good place to get some car control skills, I personally didn't like the 5-6 hours of time spent there for 4 mins of seat time.

I agree completely. I actually have a great time while most of us get together. We can actually go to like a state park or something of the sort, have a cook out, or take food with us, and have a great time. I love the mountain like drives, and we can I am sure find other venues that not as often used. I do drive slightly fast sometimes, but like to stay in my lane most of the time, specially in the mountains. I don't want to act like an idiot trying to test the limits of his car. Everything has its limits, and it would be fun if we could stay in limit and still have a good time.

I just worry that everytime people come out, a few people always have to show how fast their car is and be seriously reckless. Personally, I don't give a fuck if your car can do 120 down a major highway. MY '86 325e can do 120. Big wup.

I'm all for mountain drives if it's just some relaxing (and perhaps spirited) drives around the twisties. A few people at a time spoil things and they need to be chewed out for it so they'll stop putting people in danger.

I'm saying that people need to be vocal while they are on the drive, not internet talk afterwards. If you see people being dumb, call them and tell them, have everyone pull over, etc. It's not going to stop by forum talk.

That is true. Going up the two lane last drive, I had more than one car on my side trying to pass while going 100 mph(almost), and swerving into the oncoming traffic lane. That is too much, I think. Should stay in own lane unless out of control. You are right, people need to know when they are wrong.

Again, G and I informed people that they would be asked to leave if they were to do anything stupid or dangerous. Neither one of us had a problem with that.

Unfortunately, when you are the lead car you cannot always see what is going on. If any of you had a problem with someone acting like a jackass, all you had to do was speak up and it would have been taken care of. We are all (supposed to be) adults here.

I think too many people expected G to take control of situations he had no idea were going on. People need to take it upon themselves to speak up to people being asses.
