My next project is to install a header on my 83 320i. I am interested in some educated opinions on what is the 'header of choice'.
I considered the MSDS, Inc header [it appears to be the same one sold by TEP... only considerably less $$$]. However, I saw a photo of it installed on a 320i and it hung toooo low for me. Don't think it would be at all compatible with my lowered suspension - roads are too rough here in the heartland.
I have looked at the Stahl web site & the Korman web site. Both offer high end headers but with a high end price tag .... not that I am necessarily opposed to payig the price IF the quality / performance is equally as high.
Anyone have any advice or opinons they would be willing to share?
Thanks

I am pretty sure that Korman sells the Stahl header. Of the off the shelf headers available the Stahl certainly one of the best even though it was originally designed in the '70s. Could it be better? Absolutly, header design has progressed quite a bit since then.
There are several important questions you need to ask when choosing a header... What do you want your header to do for your engine? Make more power!... well, that's not good enough-WHERE in the power band do you want that power? Peak rpm? Cruising rpm? Power to pull you out of the corners when you drive enthusiasticaly? Do you need it to connect to the factory or aftermarket exhaust? Are you willing to spend the $$$ on a custom exhaust system? What modifications have you done to your engine? How much are you willing to spend to get the benefits you want?
To make an informed choice on headers you need to gain some knowlege. Start by reading the header info on my website www.e21motorsports.com/kendanielson scroll down the main page and click on the header info link, read it all and you will be able to make a better decision.
Great headers and exhaust are absolutly the best HP bang for the buck on these engines...

I have been considering building a turbo header for the m10, there seems to be much more interest in the past 2 years than in the past 15... I'm waiting on a batch of port flanges from the lazer cutter.... What does that piece from Finland go for shipped to the states??

If you must know I think its about $400-$450, but if it were to cost that much I would just use my log manifold and make an adapter plate to accept modern turbo's. I'm not saying that $400 is ridiculous for a header its just that at the moment I'm "ballin on a budget" :stickoutt
Vintage Supersprint... Its stainless steel, 4-2-1 design, uses a spring clip system to keep the pieces together. Pretty much the best money can buy.
I recently sold a Stahl header for an M10 for 220. So thats what you should expect to pay.
