235/40 17s on a 17x7.5 rim?

good idea? too big of tires?

Tire rack lists the rim size for the 235/40-17 as being 8-9.5, however, they explicity mention that the tire is often mounted on 7.5 rims on the BMW m3 (and I'm assuming other e36's)...

any input any of you have would be appreciated.

(btw, I'm looking for street driving and some AutoX)

I looked at a couple 17x7.5" wheels on Tirerack.com for my Z3. The suggested tire is always 235/40/17
