I got some AO32R's and I was wondering if 255's will fit in the rear. If not, do you think they will work up front? Thanks.

255/40/17's will fit on the rear (at least it does on M3's) but not on the front, widest i've seen people with drops go on the front is 235

For the past year, I've been running 245/40/17 on 8.5in rims all around on my car. I have a 10mm spacer on the front. I was wondering if I could run 255's in the rear since I have the Dinan performance spring set (which is close to the H&R sport setup) and it seems that I could barely fit it under the fender. So without doing any fender rolling or anything, could these fit? How easy is it to roll the fenders without screwing anything else up? Thanks again.

I have the Dinan suspension, and while I can run 245s up front, theres no way 255x17 will fit in back...My current 245s just barely fit..I cant even fit a whole finger flatwise in between the rubber and the fender, and thats AFter I rolled them! Now, realize that Ive got Fikses, which have an offset of 44mm, which places them 3 more mm to the outside. Which helps nicely up front, but does nothing to help tuck them in under the rear fenders :( :(

With the correct offset in the rear, rolled fender lips, and/or some extra negative camber 255/40's will fit. They will also fit on the front, again given enough negative camber, and correct offset + spacers.

Been there, wrong rim offset, going back there soon.

Actually, a 44 mm offset will put the wheels 3mm further IN compared to your stock situation. I think you might have 37.5mm offset Fikse because that is the size they suggest using for an M3 and that would move the wheels 3.5 mm further OUT.

Paul - I'd like to semi-correct myself. I believe you are correct with 44mm being the correct offset, but I think that's for a 9" wheel. An 8.5" wheel will typically (from Fikse) have a 37.5mm offset.

Nope, wrong again. The stock M3 wheels have a 41 mm offset, front and back...The Fikses FM-10s in the 8.5" width have a 44 mm offset...This places them 3 mm more toward the OUTside. Since I have the 8.5" all around, that gives me 3 more mm grace up front away from the strut, but as I said, puts them 3mm more in peril of contacting the rear fender lips.

Paul -
I'm not going to argue about the offset of the wheels...BUT, you are incorrect in saying that a 44mm offset wheel will stick out more than a 41mm offset wheel. Just try it on http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html and you can see what I mean. Can somebody else back me up on this?

Nickolas or WEs,

My bad...You are absolutely right...My mistake was that the 8.5x17 Fikses I bought have a 37.7mm offset...The 8" ones had the 44mm offset...I just knew that mine were about 3mm more to the outside....My mistake was concluding that I was getting this with the 44mm Fikses, instead of the 37.7mm ones, which are the ones I got.

Cool, for a second there I wasn't sure if I was right or wrong, so I had to check that handy-dandy web site which makes it a no-brainer.

On a side note, I've got 17x8.5" SSR Competition wheels with a 44 mm offset and got 5mm spacers to push the wheels out to effectively give them a 39mm offset. Plus, I needed the spacers to put 245/40-17's in the wheels so they wouldn't hit the strut.

Happy motoring!
