hey guys-

I used to have a slightly modded e36 325i 5spd but recently switched to a honda accord due to comfort, reliability, and cheaper maintenance costs (i'm in college...). Anyways, my friend's dad is apparently going through a mid life crisis and decided to lease a 2k5 Z4 3.0 with the sports package, but UNFORTUNATELY AUTO!!! At least it's not SMG as I've read the SMG is quite horrendous in herky jerky shifting. Anyways, the car only had 400 miles on it so I wasnt able to really push it but with the top and windows down, cruising at night, the z4 definitely earned my respect. I loved how the car sits so low to the ground, how it turns so tightly and keeps such a nice line. Steering is nice and stiff like I like it and the exhaust tone is almost as good as the g35/350z. The interior fit and trim was incredibly solid and the doors closed with a nice thunk.

The biggest downfall is the automatic tranny. How I wish there was a nice manual to row through the gears but unfortunately, my friend's dad is a lazy bum. One thing I didn't really like about the interior was the wood dash in front of the passenger side, to the right of the radio. Its design reminds me a lot of jags and it just made the car look...old inside. Also, I found the window switches in a bit of an odd location...you had to reach down and forward while turning your wrist to operate the windows. Otherwise, I found the interior top notch - the middle compartment is pretty cool to store small things.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my impressions about the z4. I used to think the car was all flash and nothing else, but wow driving the car made me realize the car is a damn good performer.

Glad you like the car.

Hope you can afford one some day like you firends "lazy bum" dad. Then you can get what you like.

def. agree on your points...
the wood doesn't seem to fit too well to me(though whatever the new wood is, is better than what was previously offered, & it does look better on some colors cars/interiors, but still the alluminum is far more appealing to me)

& the window controls are my only real peeve w/the interior. I always liked having them next to the shifter in my other Bimmers- dunno why BMW moved them(it takes away some of the uniqueness, along with the dash not being angled towards the driver :()
also try using the driver side drink holder- it drips right onto the window & mirror controls :shifty
