View Full Version : Soooo....lets Say...
fatpat320i 05-12-2005, 02:05 AM that i wanted to sell my car. i am seriously thinking about buying this e30 m3. so ..if i do this, i will sell the e21 (even tho i love my damn car). here is what i have in my car...
bilstien shocks
h&r springs
crossdrilled rotors and 5 series calipers.
recaro seats
alpine stereo 9815
mb quarts all around
jl audio 10 inch sub in a custom box
jl audio 250
hartage front stress bar
momo shift knob and boot
limited slip
new sweet alarm with 2 way
had the side markers shaved
have euros in the closet for the car (need a touch of work but not bad)
the car is in super good shape..paint is awesome, never been repainted...couple of small dings here and there..only thing it really needs is a new windshield (damn that rock) and maybe a new hazard switch. now i am wondering how much i should be asking if i sold this car. i have been offered some decent money for it...but here is a pic..you guys give me some tips..
blitzed310 05-12-2005, 02:15 AM if you got an extra 15k laying around to get the M3 I would do it, just make sure you have an extra 5k for parts, if your ganna rebuild the motor make sure you have another 10-15k laying around
fatpat320i 05-12-2005, 02:18 AM when i tell you that this m3 is PERFECT...i mean it..clean as shit..its goin to my mechanic this week for a look over...but i was pretty sure i was asking if anyone could give me tips on a price for my e21...
uberpanzer 05-12-2005, 02:59 AM Do you NEEED to sell the e21 to get the M3? I ask (as an e30 M3 owner), since daily driving an e30 M3 (esp one in great condition) can get expensive. They are not easy to do DIY stuff on (about fliuds/plugs/filters is all you can REALLY change yourself on standard maint), and get very pricey very fast. I would advise you to keep the e21 as a decent (very damn good by the look of it) daily driver.
That being said, if you HAVE to sell the e21, try not to take less than $1800 for it, starting at $2500 at the LEAST. Granted the cars in general aren't worth tons these days, but with the euro's, all the stereo gear, LSD, suspension, Recaro's and brake upgrades, there isn't much this car REALLY needs (other than some bigger wheels and a turbo :D).
blitzed310 05-12-2005, 03:15 AM This sounds like a bad idea, selling a DD to drive one of the best machines BMW ever produced everyday? If its perfect keep it that way and use the E21 daily, if not ill see you on the streets begging for money, listen to Doug, he knows.
Are you selling the E21 to help pay for the M3? If so its only going to give you 10% of the cost and then you will have to drive it everyday...
I havnt seen an NA E21 go for 2500 in a long time, id say about 2k with all the parts, if you sell the parts seperate then maybe more...
fatpat320i 05-12-2005, 03:30 AM 2gs. wow i got offered 3 times that amount the other day. and i have a guy willing to pay like 5gs. i guess people out here are willing to pay more for a 320 than out your way. i dunno what im gonna do about the e30. its up in the air. i was really just wondering what i could get for the e21. as much as i do love the 320, i have been thinking about getting something newer. not just the m3. its a hard call right now. i really love my 320. but man that e30 is something else...if my mechanic says its worth the buy i may go for it and keep the 320. who knows...im a mess....i love cars...ugh
uberpanzer 05-12-2005, 03:36 AM If someone is offering $5k for a NA M10 e21, take it. You could use the money to get a decent (at least out here) e21 as a daily better, and the rest on the e30 M3.
As CJ was trying to point out (while sidestepping at the same time), I have had 'issues' with my M3. It was in pretty decent shape, I had been flogging it for some time (as it SHOULD be driven), but blew up the motor at the track, without already having any funds saved up for a rebuild (should have started the DAY I bought the car). The motors are great, but very expensive to rebuild (the right way) and maintain (valve adjustments aren't cheap and need to be done every 15K or less). I will never try to tell a true enthusiast NOT to by an M3....if they are financially prepared to take the plunge. The cars are money pits, but what a GLORIOUS way to spend $$$! :D :buttrock
kdanielson 05-12-2005, 11:02 AM Look down the page a little, there is a guy with a nice 323i in NJ for sale at just over $3000 and he can't sell it.... I would believe $5000 for a 320i when I had it in my hand.... If you can get that much you should.

Broly238 05-12-2005, 03:45 PM $5000 does come once in a lifetime for a e21 thats not had a ton of work.... I mean, i would hate to see you go, and I would hate to see you get rid of the e21. BUt you could always find the cheap kind that go for $600 in the future and restore it.
MR 325 05-12-2005, 04:15 PM Somebody is willing to hand you $5000 and you still have the car?
Cerpin TaxT 05-12-2005, 07:54 PM pat you should look into that 323. its not too far from you so it might be worth looking into.

So true, I would have handed him the pink slip and got the hell out....
fatpat320i 05-13-2005, 02:19 AM i have alot of time invested in the car. but there has been a change in the winds, i have come across a car that i cant believe is being sold. i dont wanna talk about it too much, but if it goes well..its gonna be shweeettttttaaaaa..the 320 is gonna go....and there is a little e36 action comming my way.
E30drmr 05-13-2005, 06:16 PM I was thinking about a 2002 for a "fun" 2nd car, but maybe an E21 instead . . . any opinions?
kdanie 05-13-2005, 09:08 PM e21's can be made into great cars with a little effort, thought and a modest amount of $$$. The generally sell for less than a 2002 in similar condition.

djminkin 05-13-2005, 10:23 PM What kind of money for the M3? I was looking at an M3 to stick away for a few decades, but the guy wants huge money for it?? Under 50,000 miles though.. Anyone have any ideas what those cars are worth in immaculate condition? I was talking to a guy the other day that sold for over 20 grand for a car with 68k on it!!
E30drmr 05-16-2005, 01:33 PM Thanks Ken . . . I'll take that into consideration.
uberpanzer 05-17-2005, 12:27 AM e30 M3's in immaculate condition go for at least 18K (with over 125K on the clock), and keep getting higher and higher the more mods the car has and the less miles on the odo. $15k is the going rate for one in decent shape, and even if you find one for less than that, you'll end up spending about $15k total to get it into 'decent shape' (it is amazing what you find wrong after you buy the car). These cars are actually starting to go up in value a little bit, esp now that they are getting even more rare. The e36 M3's are going down in price, but I have yet to see the prices for the e30 M3's drop.

For a comparison point ... everyone I know on this board fount it outreageous that I was able to sell my clean 95 M3 with 150K on the clock for $11,250 just two weeks ago...
My other M3 that was also a 95 and had just over 100K sold to a guy who is now a member on this board for I think $17k 3 years ago, and that was the going rate.
High mileage 95's are going for around 10 ... yet you can't get an 89-90 M3 for $10k unless you get a complete POS or a crazy deal
TheNeek 05-17-2005, 12:35 PM My partner in crime sold his 89 E30 M3 for 13,500 about 8 months ago. Clean car, which was perfect mechanically. New rod bearings, Ground Control, Koni Adjustables, GC camber plates, GC rear shock mounts. New rear wheel bearings. Intake gaskets. I mean the car was gone through. Pushing 100+ on the odo.
djminkin 05-17-2005, 01:10 PM I know of a red 91 that just sold for 26,000!!! Of course it was perfect with 42K on the clock. E36 M3's are a dime a dozen and they are depreciating at a scary pace. You can pickup a nice E36 M3 under 15K and the car is night and day difference to the E30, but the E30's limited production makes it much more valueable.
