I will take them; but, what I will do is try and sell them -- and if I can sell them, I'll send you the money ... how about that?

jterp 05-11-2005, 04:57 PM So Mikey, all you have is that subaru now, huh?
POOR!
Mikey52 05-11-2005, 04:58 PM Well, I feel like a schmuck. Mr. jj.adams called me a few days ago and offered me $22k, I said I didnt want to go lower than $22.5k. GOOD PLAN! :rolleyes
Ah well, he sounds like he has his shit together and might be able to get it this weekend (from MN nonetheless).
James - You have a PM.
NoSoup4U 05-11-2005, 05:06 PM First lesson: you got greedy -- burned you.
Second lesson: Quibbling over $500 is not worth it in selling/buying a car.
Third lesson: If it's a reasonable offer, take it. These days, since I used to change cars sort of frequently ... I've noticed the market is softening up quite a bit ... not really sure why. I think interest rates are part of the reason; but, I also think consumer confidence is not as strong as it used to be ...
Especially since the war is what ... requesting more than 200 billion dollars :confused

I guess. I held off mainly because I had a local guy who seemed very interested (at my previous bottom price, $1800 higher) and I really prefered to seal the deal offline. Of course I called him today and he had decided he wasnt interested. :dunno

Fourth lesson, when a person says they are really interested and take more than 6 hours to give a commitment -- move on. ;) A person that is serious will tell you and give you a final offer and let YOU think about it rather than saying "they" will think about it ... comprendez?
To rub it in even more, you will get hit with Ebay fee's now because you sold it online ... :(
Hence, why the $22K was a good deal since you could cancel the auction and avoid the $100+ in ebay fee's that you'll get hit with now. I've sold some cars... trust me ;)

I appreciate the offer, but if you sell them you can keep the money. I need to clear some space because I'm moving at the end of the month. I don't know if I can fit them in the mini, but let me know. I'm going to need the mirror because I'm moving to an area where I don't know the cops and I know I'm going to get in trouble with my new toy.

It's actually only $40 for the Ebay fees ($40 to list, $40 when the sale is complete) so it isnt too bad.
What's going to eat me the most about this is, with 5 minutes left, I picked up my phone and dialed jj.adams' number. I was about to end the auction and hit SEND and tell him he could get it for $22k. :(

I sincerely hope you are joking b/c that is pretty unscrupulous of you.
1) you said No reserve. Which means, you bid, you win.
2) Although you reserved the right to end the auction, pretty bad character for a person to end it within one hour of the auction, much less five minutes left. I know people do it; but, it is wrong IMO.
If you were going to end it -- end it at least 6 hours before auction's end. 5 minutes before it ends is a pretty $hitty move.
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox -- I hate seller's that do what you were about to do -- all for what, a few more bucks? $400 more you would have made -- but, better to have integrity and character and keep your word.
Scho approached me for $1K to pay for torn rear shock towers four weeks after I sold the car. I paid him because I told him the car was excellent ... let me ask you ... would you have paid him?

Well, I figure I gave ample warning that I could and would end the auction if something came up (that's precisely why I put what I did in the ad). If the local guy called and gave me an offer I would've ended the ad no matter how much time was left.
In my opinion, Ebay is all about reading the ads, I would expect anyone else to do the same if I were the one bidding. :dunno $400 might not be a lot to you, but it is to me.

Blue book is something like $17k. A more accurate representation of worth would be NADA which lists it at $21.7k for trade-in and $24.8k for retail. That's why I was really hoping for something in the $23,xxx range, oh well. Looks like the guy has already booked a flight for tomorrow so it should be gone soon.
On another note, does anyone know how insurance might work if I get ripped off here? Say I call and cancel my insurance on the car as soon as he drives off with it. Then I go to the bank and find out that the check is fake. Am I just fcuked at that point?

I would go to the bank with him before you let him take the car. Do not cancel the insurance until you return your tags or MVA will fine you for
"not having insurance for a day".
jterp 05-12-2005, 09:22 AM I would go to the bank with him before you let him take the car. Do not cancel the insurance until you return your tags or MVA will fine you for

Definately take the check to the bank before he leaves with the car. If his check doesn't clear and he's 1000 miles away you have much bigger problems than insurance. You are not letting him take the car with your plates on it are you? If you are not giving him the plates you can cancel your insurance the same day. If the MVA questions you or tries to fine you you can send them a copy of the bill of sale to show when the car was sold. If you want to be pre-emptive you can include a bill of sale when you mail your plate back.
Mikey52 05-12-2005, 09:30 AM Yeah, I just called my insurance company and they said I would be fcuked if I did that. I guess Ill pick him up from the airport and go straight to the bank. I have heard a few horror stories of banks accepting the checks and calling a few days later to say they are no good. That would suck. :(
I am not letting him drive back with my plates, I told him needs temp or travel tags. The plan is to go directly up to the MVA and drop them off.
continuing ed 05-12-2005, 09:32 AM If the buyer gives you ANY bad vibes, or maybe if things seem TOO perfect- call the bank that issued the buyer his check (personal, cashier's etc.). Verify the check amount, the check number, and to whom it is being paid. Get the name of the bank employee that provided the info just in case.
Another step- bordering on paranoia- is to call directory assistance to get the phone # of the bank, just to make sure the buyer doesn't give you his "banker's phone number". The buyer could give you any phone number, with his best friend or crackhead aunt reading from a script.
vjlax18 05-12-2005, 09:34 AM Why didn't you tell him to bring a bank check? He would almost have to because any check over $9999 get's flagged for investigation (IIRC).
jterp 05-12-2005, 09:36 AM I have heard a few horror stories of banks accepting the checks and calling a few days later to say they are no good. That would suck. :(
That is most often only with banks outside of the United states. As JD said though, it should be a bank check and not a personal check.

No, no, it is going to be a bank check. Im just being paranoid because I have heard of people giving fake bank checks as well. Ive actualy received a $10k personal check before (and written one) so Im not sure about the investigation thing.

BUT, I never really got attached to the car. I hated selling my M3 because I loved it, when the Vette drove off...I didnt feel that bad. It was definitely a good car, just not for me.

jterp 05-16-2005, 08:26 AM bigger wing or ban.
Congrats. Better choice than the srt-4. I would have gone with the Sti, but what do i know. :dunno
:D
Mikey52 05-16-2005, 08:27 AM I like the wing. ;)

I really like the STi but they are about $2k more, dont handle quite as well, and the engine and turbo are very limited in stock form. :cool
Mike, I can't wait to try your Evo out at Summit Point. You know, to return the favor since I let you drive my car last year. :alright
j/k. :stickoutt
Oh, keep the wing on it. Once you change the tails, the car will look really nice. http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/images/smilies/goodjob.gif
jterp 05-16-2005, 11:08 AM keep the wing on it. I plan on putting the same one on my 'lude http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/images/smilies/goodjob.gif
 ricer!
vjlax18 05-16-2005, 11:58 AM Oh, keep the wing on it. Once you change the tails, the car will look really nice. http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/images/smilies/goodjob.gif
It's more of a book shelf really. :stickoutt
It is big, but for some reason I don't mind it. I like it better than the STi's wing. :dunno
Mikey52 05-16-2005, 12:17 PM I actually set my drink on it when I got home, worked out very well. :D

I usually dont like big wings (SRT-4 for instance) but the car without a wing, or even with the regular lancer wing, just doesnt look right.
vjlax18 05-16-2005, 12:20 PM Did you know that there are 2 round indentations in the wing on 94-98 Mustang Boss Shinoda wings? Larry Shinoda designed them to be cup holders for MEETS!!!!
Mike, do you have any mods planned for it??
Mikey52 05-16-2005, 01:33 PM Maybe DMG can make me some custom cupholders in the wing. ;)
Mike, do you have any mods planned for it??
Yesh. :devillook
The plan is to do full exhaust, including a new manifold, MBC, and a dyno tune (mail-in or custom I havent decided). That should put me at 300-315 whp and I think I can be plenty happy with that for awhile. I already have oil temp and EGT gauges (courtesy of a friend) and Im going to get a matching boost gauge and do an A-pillar mount to keep an eye on everything.
I will be leaving it stock for a month or so though, I want to make sure it doesnt have any fatal flaws that could then be blamed on mods by Mitsubishi.
bogdan 05-16-2005, 01:48 PM I want a ride when you come out this weekend. :D
Mike, shouldn't you break the engine/clutch in before autoXing it already?? :confused
What does the car dyno while it is stock?
jterp 05-16-2005, 02:11 PM Mike, shouldn't you break the engine/clutch in before autoXing it already?? :confused

What does the car dyno while it is stock?
I drive 178 miles a day...it will be broken in by Saturday. :D
Stock cars dyno around 230whp on Dynojets.
Oh, that's right.
What's the stock turbo efficient up to?? Is it a T-25?
Mikey52 05-16-2005, 03:04 PM Oh, that's right.

16G. I think 24-ish psi? Stock is 19 psi, most people with the mods I plan are running 21 psi to get that 300+ whp.
