MPowered88 05-10-2005, 07:08 PM If youre talking about the E30 M3 motor, S14, I hear turbo or supercharging is not a common thing. The compression is too high so I guess if you did want to do internal engine work, I bet you could make it possible. I recall someone saying there are only a handful of people that have done this to there E30 so it is experimental. ydubbs4 05-10-2005, 10:36 PM M3's dont see a lot of FI due to the high compression ratio, as well as a serious lack of room in the engine compartment. With the engine tilted at 30 degrees, really the only place for one is buried under the exhaust header. It can be done and has been done, but it will have to be custom, and will cost you significant dollars if you cant fab your own headers and piping. Will MRacer88 05-11-2005, 01:06 AM So what is a good way to get a lot of horsepower numbers out of that engine. Or maybe an engine swap to a euro 2.5. I want around 300 horsepower, and it will be an everyday driver and also some auto xing. So help me out and what is the best way to get a lot of power out of that engine. SpecRaceM5 05-11-2005, 01:57 AM s38 :D for daily you might consider an obd1 s52. would be more reliable and less expensive to maintain then the s14. could get the power out of that or get a euro one that already has 300 something hp. gobuffs 05-11-2005, 07:47 AM s38 :D for daily you might consider an obd1 s52. would be more reliable and less expensive to maintain then the s14. could get the power out of that or get a euro one that already has 300 something hp. The Euro 2.5 has 238 hp from the factory. Anyway you go to try to get 300 hp from an S14 will cost you at least 20k. I just sold a 2.5 that had 250 hp (and a 15k bill), I figured it would cost me another $7500 to get it to 300 hp. ydubbs4 05-11-2005, 10:09 AM I agree with the gents above. Its not going to happen for any sane amount of money with an S14. Sell it, buy an S52, convert to OBD1, do the cams and air intake, and you'll probably only be out $3k-$4k. Which is WAY better IMO. This coming from the guy who just spent $3k on the CF airbox setup. Will MRacer88 05-11-2005, 10:21 AM So you guys suggest that the best thing is an engine swap. So the fitting of a s52 euro motor is not too difficult, or would it be hard to get it to fit under the hood. I was thinking more along the lines of a euro 3.0 motor, intake, exhaust and cams. What do you think that will cost me. SpecRaceM5 05-11-2005, 11:04 AM The Euro 2.5 has 238 hp from the factory. Anyway you go to try to get 300 hp from an S14 will cost you at least 20k. The S52 is a US only motor. Mracer asks what the "best thing" to do is? Define "best". WHat are you trying to achieve? Street car? Track car? best of both worlds? Daily driver? SpecRaceM5 05-11-2005, 09:47 PM im sry. i meant the 3.2L euro s50. which would be the s50 b32 correct? gobuffs 05-11-2005, 11:18 PM Correct. MRacer88 05-12-2005, 12:59 AM Sorry you guys are right i meant the euro s50 motor, (i was writing this early in the morning before school, so i still wasn't all there yet). So that an a new trany should cost? And also what is the best setup for a daily driver and also some racing, and auto xossing? uberpanzer 05-12-2005, 09:27 AM The S14 is really not good as a daily driven motor, esp if you are trying to get gobs of power from it. It can be done (daily driving and/or gobs of power), but you need to have a fairly decent bankroll to get it there and keep it running well. With that being said, once you're making gobs of power, the motor is going to be pretty peaky. Without the aid of VANOS or Valve-tronic though, you will have no low end (other than displacement) and tons of high end. This means that it will be sorta sluggish at the bottom end and even the mid-range. There are ways to improve the mid-range, but at the expense of some top end power. The e30 M3 is NOT about having the most power on the block. If that is what you are looking for, stick with an e36 M3 and work on that to take out the likes of the newer M cars. The e30 M3 was designed as a homologation special, ie they had to build X many road cars to be able to race the car. BMW built the race car, and then built the road cars to qualify (vs MB who at first took an exsisting road car and went racing with it, but eventually followed BMW's lead and re-worked the 190e 16v cars). These cars were built to a certain set of regulations for a particular racing series back in the mid to late '80s and early '90s. They still do well today, but are not powerful cars. They were all about balance, light weight, and high revving peaky 4 bangers. Great for the track, but pretty sucky for stop and go traffic.
