View Full Version : Moldings....
BoostedE21 05-10-2005, 05:42 PM Im thinking of putting the moldings back on the car. I'm going to get new euro bumpers soon too and thought its would enhance the look a bit. My questions are:
1.where can i find them, new?
2. Should i put them back on....?
Thanx
pedenjohn 05-10-2005, 07:07 PM probably mite be a bit difficult for you to get them this way, but a company called 'euro car parts' in the uk lists them in their catalogue for e21's. their not oem, but as good as and their sumat silly like £13 sterling each, with the size the shipping mite not be too bad
Cerpin TaxT 05-10-2005, 07:39 PM attilla my passenger side moulding fell off when i was driving in traffic a few months ago. i ordered a new one from bav auto recycling and it came with all the plastic parts and what not for putting it in. i think it only costed me like 30 bucks after everything. they said when i called that they had a lot of moulding in stock from their parts cars. i suggest calling them, ill look for the number.
kdanie 05-10-2005, 08:35 PM I can't tell for sure from your pic but it looks like your moulding indentation in the sides of the car have been filled... If it has the factory mouldings won't go back on correctly.

bread320i 05-10-2005, 08:54 PM Id say leave them off.
BoostedE21 05-10-2005, 10:06 PM Yeah, the holes are filled in. You can see where it was filled if you look hard enought....here is a pic.
cerpin taxt, if you have the number that would be great. Is that for all of them?
Hartge82H3 05-10-2005, 10:33 PM IMO, putting them back on would give your car a modern look with a nice classic touch.
kdanie 05-10-2005, 11:24 PM I see... the holes are filled but the indentation is still there. You can redrill the holes easy enough but I like it the way it is, looks clean and uncluttered, but that's just me-your car=your choice.

BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 10:16 AM Doug, thank you. What condition are they in? Im looknig to get ones that are new or in like new condition. Thanx again.
sil0kin 05-11-2005, 10:26 AM kEEP THEM OFF, kEEP THEM oFF. HAHAH I took mine off and the holes are gone. i think it looks smooth. But of corse thats my opinion. But yea man I say leave em off! ;) :buttrock :eyecrazy :alright :redspot :stickoutt :) :cool

Cerpin TaxT 05-11-2005, 01:59 PM heres the web page for bav auto recycling (http://www.bmrparts.com/) . this is where i got mine. all their stuff is hand selected and cleaned before being shipped. i had good luck with them in the past.
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 02:11 PM If you pay the shipping I will send you a set free...

Monk183 05-11-2005, 02:28 PM best to look at the pics http://groups.msn.com/VictoriaBMW
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 02:50 PM best to look at the pics http://groups.msn.com/VictoriaBMW
Thanx, but they are hard to see, do you have close ups, or can you just tell me what condition they are in?
MR 325 05-11-2005, 03:56 PM I would just take Doug's, then toss a fresh coat of SEM trim paint on them and you're set
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 04:24 PM I'm not only concerned about the rubber, but the chrome (or alum. shinny thing above and below the rubber) and the dont want marks on it.
Now im not sure if what shapes doug's molding are, but thats what im looking for.
pedenjohn 05-11-2005, 04:32 PM id put em back on, but i wudnt be drilling the hole in the side of it again, if you take the clips out of the back of them and use a bit of windscreen adheasive to at attach them, at least you could take them off at a later date again if you decided, no drilling requred
Taiko 05-11-2005, 05:10 PM John beat me to it. Yeah, I would just stick them back on if I was going to use them again, no point in spoling the paintwork.
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 05:15 PM id put em back on, but i wudnt be drilling the hole in the side of it again, if you take the clips out of the back of them and use a bit of windscreen adheasive to at attach them, at least you could take them off at a later date again if you decided, no drilling requred
How strong is this adheasive? Where can i find it?
blitzed310 05-11-2005, 05:56 PM Attila did they braze the holes or did they fill them with filler?
I would wait till you do the body work till you put them back on. If your going to put them on and leave them on then redrill the holes once all the paint is on. Dont use an adhesive, due to the fact that it can strip the paint off if they ever fall off or you take them off, you never know when you might have to remove the trim for what ever reason, I have done it 2x since I repainted. Do it the right way and wait till the body work is completed. Also if your going to color match the Euro then might as well shadow the trim too so you dont have to worry about the shinny trim area. Also I believe its like $80 for the whole set through BavAuto Mr. Baller :pimpflash
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 07:08 PM umm, as far as i know the body work is done aside from the hood scoop. :confused and they were filled in with filler, as i guess ill just have to drill it.. The euro bumpers will not be color matched, they will stay chrome. Thanx for the info tho.
blitzed310 05-11-2005, 07:19 PM Oh, I was under the impression that you were going to redo the body work and have it painted again, I know you told me this on 2 different occasions, and I know Im not loosing my mind, just my sanity
BoostedE21 05-11-2005, 07:23 PM nah, the body it pretty good, and if i do do it, it wont be for while. But i would like to fix the scoop soon tho.
uberpanzer 05-12-2005, 02:39 AM I'll 'inspect' mine for ya either on Thurs or Friday. I think the chrome is good on them, but can't remember, since I didn't really care. I would say shadowline them, but that's my taste, and might not blend as well with chrome euro bumpers. But we'll see.
....dont' you love people tossing free stuff your way? :D
pedenjohn 05-12-2005, 06:55 PM just pull the clip out of the back of it and put a few blobs (just a bit, you dont want it squeezing out all over the place) of bondant on the back of the strip, put it into place (try and get it rite the first time coz its messy stuff but it takes maybe 6 hours to cure), tape each strip into place with masking tape, and wipe of any excess bondant that squeezes out with petrol (or panel wipe). the bondant im talkin bout is what many front windscreens are held in with, sometime called silkoflex (but there are many grades of it), if your stuck ask any windscreen supplier
blitzed310 05-13-2005, 12:40 AM dont "glue" it on...
BoostedE21 05-13-2005, 12:42 AM dont "glue" it on...
Thanx
sil0kin 05-13-2005, 12:53 AM :lol Hey atilla. what kind of wheels did u have on ur E21. (ur other set) what brand and spec where they?. thanx
BoostedE21 05-13-2005, 01:25 AM they were team Dynamics Motorsports 16x7 et 18
uberpanzer 05-13-2005, 02:31 AM OK, so I looked at the moldings. Ya know what, I think I finally found something on the car that is in excellent shape!! The chrome all looks good, the black portions could use a little Back To Black, but otherwise they are killer. I'll take them off the car in the not-too-distant future and get them to you so you can look them over and see if you want them.
...there IS an autoX coming up in San Diego on the 21st..... :D
BoostedE21 05-13-2005, 10:14 AM Thank you very much Doug!!

E30drmr 05-13-2005, 06:12 PM But I must say that Uberpanzer has that "secret weapon" look . . . looks aren't everything! ;)
