I know this is better suited for another forum but I like to hear from people I know, somehow it seems like a little more reputable info. Anyway.....

This weekend I swapped LCAB's for M3 units. Major improvement in control and feel and took care of my brake shudder at high speed braking. However, now I have a very irritating vibration between 55-62 mph. The old soft CAB's were hiding something else and now that the LCA is rock solid, I've got a new problem. Wheel bearings? I'd like to get this fixed before the 21st and Eurofest so any help is appreciated..... Thanks.....

Double hawt! Looks great! Yeah, I might see about getting them balanced with the alignment. But I don't want to do an alignment if I need to do ball joints or something first..... :confused

My car has the same shake and i had the rotors turned at big red and it helped out for the low speed but and higher speed it still shakes ....so if i could find out that would be sweet....but im going to try tire balance first.

Tristan,
If it just shakes while braking then it could be bushings like mine was. My brakes feel so much more responsive now. If I could just get that vibration under control now I'd be set. I would highly recomend M3 CAB's as an upgrade for anyone, and its a fairly easy task to change them out..... I'll go balance my front wheels and see if that helps.... time to rotate anyway.....

thanks guys, i started researching the wheel shake since mine started. thought maybe it was the brakes, but i dont think thats where its coming from, as i dont have any shake when braking only driving between 20-30, so i found a link, but lost it and this guy was having the same problem after many trys of new thigns he went to a place with a special balancer and was able to determine a slight bend in his rim and that was the cause of the shake, after spending a crap load on new suspension things. let me see if i can find the link.

oh and jed its with an I insted of a y. also you find a coat hanger?? lol brandon you know where that coat hanger is??

also jed thought i saw you the other night drivinf down sooner towards norman, i got all excited i saw the back end and it was a ti hatch, thought i saw yellow fogs, i was coming up from behind. but i was disapointed when it was only a college girl who did not appreciate the true bmw life. thought i was goin to get to have alittle race, oh well.

Your lower control arm is this thing that looks like a boomerang with holes in it. At the back end of it there is a single shaft that fits inside a donut looking bushing. This bushing is attached to the car with two bolts through the carrier. Its easy to spot. You can usually do a visual check to see if your stock bushings are torn or obviously worn out. I'll find the DIY link that has perfect instructions on how to replace them...

Understeer has a good write up on LCAB's with lots of good pics. This should help steer you in the right direction......

I have a shimmy at 55-60. I thought it was a bent wheel (which still might be there) but it is my tie rod. there is about 1/4 in of play.

A wheel bearing will make a noise when turning. Drive down the road at about 65 with the wwindow down. Merge in to another lane and if you hear a wump wump wump sound its a wheel bearing.

Also if your Power steering hoses are leaking and the rack isn't getting enough fluid I heard that could cause a similar wheel bearing noise or shimmy. But thats just what I have heard. i don't really know about that.

Tie rod, I'll get under there and check that out. Might be time to just replace them anyway. So if its a wheel bearing I should look for the wump wump noise? I think mine goes more like rrrrraggg rrrraggg, that is until you hit a bump and then its kind of a wheeeko wheeeko claggggg..... Any idea what could be making these noises? :lol :lol :lol

Thanks for the hints Patrick...
