Good Day Everyone,

i am going to be in germany in late june. and really want to make the trek from Munich to the Ring.

i was wondering if you could answer some questions for me. as all the information i find is in german, which i cannot read. but i plan on learning a bit before i get there.

first off, how far is it from Munich to The Ring? what ways are there to get there (i may or may not have a car to drive). if i go, it will be a mid-week deal. not on a weekend.

the Ring Taxi, is it worth the 175 Euros? do i have any chance of reserving a ride this late?

what else besides the Ring-Taxi is there to do at the Ring? again, i probably wont have a car :( i remember reading somewhere that there was a BMW Motorsport museum or something along those lines in the area? any other car companies have stuff there (porsche, audi, etc.)

and a couple other questions.

do the car manufacturers offer factory tours or anything like that at their main plants? i would like to go visit the BMW and Porsche factorys/headquarters while i'm there, but am unsure if it is worth the extra time/effort?

and if you have any other tips for me, that would be AWESOME. my family is doing a 2 week tour of some parts of europe. so the most time we have in any place is 2-3 days. (visiting paris, germany and a few places in italy)

Thanks a TON,
Brent

The BMW museum is located right in Munich. If you want to go to the Ring, best thing to do is rent a car for a couple days. It will be about a 5 to 7 hour drive, depending on traffic. Shoot up Autobahn 9 to Autobahn 3 towards Koln (Cologne). Take Autobahn 48 west past Koblenz and a half hour later you will see signs for it. There is also a museum at the track, but no luck getting a ride on the taxi. They are reserved well in advance. You can take a train but it will take longer and may be more expensive than a rental, but you'll still need transportation to/at the track since it's out in the middle of the country. If you do get a rental, 15 euro will get you a lap at the track and it's 73 corners. Have fun.

That's too bad!

I would suggest getting a rental, too... Once you are at the ring, and you are at the parking lot on the entrance, you can most probably find some ///M or Porsche owner to give you a ride around. The experience of riding passenger on the ring in a fast car is very impressive! Don't miss out on that.

BTW.: The BMW Museum is right now being redone. Therefore exhibition is closed till Somewhen in 2007. BUT! In the Olympic stadium there is an exhibition with some of the exponates from BMW. It's to supplement the Museum while it's gone.
Have fun in Germany! Unfortunately I won't be back from my tour till mid of July. Otherwise I'd offer you a ride.

HAVE PHUN!

from what I've heard the ring taxis are awesome, but like someone already said, you can have just as much fun blagging a ride in someone's car
