what are your favorite settings for the koni adjustables...
i think i was running fully tight on the back and fully tight on the front for racing, and fully tight on the back and fully soft on the front for "comfort"
it felt like i was getting ass rammed when going over small potholes... does fully soft on both effect the handling, or is it just for driver feel... ie if i ran soft on the back and hard on the front or soft on the back soft on the front, would it make a difference in terms of handling, or would it just feel loftier?

I run my Koni's one half turn from full soft. When I installed them I left them at the default setting, which was about 50%. That worked okay, handling wise, until cornering over an uneven surface. There the car tended to want to walk sideways over the bumps. Resetting them to a half turn from full soft (the rears are a major PITA) eliminated that and had no other effect on handling that I can tell.
With the Koni's set that way and H&R springs the ride is pretty civilized. The usual small bumps and imperfections in the road surface are still felt, but it isn't a harsh, jarring, sort of feeling. However, a speed bump still must be taken with caution unless you want to feel what an ejection seat feel like when it fires.
The Koni sports are only adjustable in rebound damping, which is basically how fast the shock can extend after compressing. That means that a change should have little, if any, effect on handling, but will have a noticable affect on ride quality.
Have you upgraded the sway bars? The sport springs and shocks were an improvement over stock, especially in helping to reduce understeer by transferring weight to the front. But I think I got more improvement from Eibach sway bars than from the springs/shocks.

I also got way more improvement form my sway bars than springs/shocks.

Well, it works for me and others that I've helped with the install (or re-install of the rears after adjusting) of Koni Sports.

I run my konis full firm up front 3/4 full rear. Guess I just like punishment. It's really not that harsh.

How does it handle near the cornering limit on a rough surface? That's what convinced me to back them down to almost full soft.

I'm also running 17in tires so there is some sidewall relief on the ride harshness. 18 or 19 in tires w/ very thin sidewalls would probably to rough for the street with Konis at full firm. That being said, on my car w/ the Dinan suspension there is no problem cornering hard on rough surfaces. But I am also very careful near the limit on rough surfaces since they are usually associated with very steep canyon road dropoffs.
In more smooth controlled environments like auto-x or the occasional track day, full firm is again not a issue.
Either way it's just my preference on the cars setup.
I third the notion that sway bars make as big or bigger difference in handling as springs/shocks. They also DEFINITLY make the biggest difference in ride quality. They also (IMHO) tend to exhibit the flexability in the E34 chassis. Because it ties the fronts together so well, going over steep bumps with just one wheel makes it clear that the car twists a bit.
