Benny Z 05-07-2005, 02:20 PM Let me know what you think. the outer two solos are great (!) subs. what's the middle one? i didn't think it was ok to mix and match subs in the same system... ? or is that the same model, just a newer dust cover? wolverine8490 05-07-2005, 02:43 PM Yeah those are 2 s10d solo's on the sides, and a c10d Kicker Comp in the middle. The boxes for the solos are .66 cu and the box for the comp is 1.37. They are individually sealed, so it should be ok. I just need a new amp to power the solo's now and I will be good to go. eric77 05-08-2005, 03:15 AM different kinds of subs in diferent or the same enclosure is definitely a no no. It can be done with good results if each is amped seperately and crossed over to play different frequencies countless hours are put into doing it properly, etc. As for how you have it setup, it is going to be a miracle to make that sound as well as the 2 solos would on their own. Even if crossed over properly it likely wouldnt sound as good as the 2 solos would on their own. If it was me Id ditch the middle kicker and run the 2 solos on their own. wolverine8490 05-08-2005, 11:41 AM different kinds of subs in diferent or the same enclosure is definitely a no no. Hmm, I never heard about that. That makes me sad now cause I glue the heck out of those boxes, and nailed them together. I was planning on getting a different amp for the solo's, as the RMS with the encloser I built for them is 350 watts each, and since my amp is only 225 X 2 they barley even move. I actually disconnected them for now, in fear of blowing them. My 1 10" comp actually sounds better than the 2 solo's right now, but I am hoping/guess that it is because they are so underpowered. Benny Z 05-08-2005, 11:53 AM You should definately use wood screws instead of nails with your next box. Wood glue is stronger than wood and is the best adhesive, but I've seen nailed boxes come apart even with a hefty amount of wood glue. Be sure to drill pilot holes for the screws so that you don't split the MDF. Use as few screws as possible. I like to use 2 screws per side on a small sealed enclosure. Definately get some more power for the Solos. With what you have running now, you're likely going to clip the amp, which could likely mean instant death to the subs. eric77 05-08-2005, 12:48 PM actually nails can work fine as the wood glue is what is holding the box together not the nails/glue. The box you saw fall apart must have just been a faulty construction. If the screws are actually holding the box together, then you have got problems. The only problem with nails is unless you have a nail gun you are likely going to split the wood hammering them in. wolverine8490 05-08-2005, 01:16 PM You should definately use wood screws instead of nails with your next box. Yeah, I just did the procedure per JL to get the Input sensitivity set to try and avoid clipping. In the process I think I found that 2 of the channels on my amp are toast, the highest reading I could get was like 14 volts. But on the other channel I could almost hit 40 volts. I set it pretty good, and the subs dont sound like they are distorting. I guess I will just have to save up and get an amp. Do you think a phoenix gold zx350 would work good enough?? Or any other suggestions on an amp I could pick up off ebay that would porwe them? I am looking to spend 100 - 170 with shipping. |
