(the results were in Evo magazine in the UK)

This goes against everything I've read!? I was just about to get some S-03's too. I'll probably still get them, but now I'm thinking. I wonder how scientific their test are compared to tirerack's (who placed the S-03's first). I'm just surprised they were so far down the list - in complete contrast to tirerack.

I also wonder if the test would be different for the sizes 265/40R17 for the rear and 235/45R17 for the front - the sizes I plan on getting.

Found this on another Z3 board...

Rankings:

1-Goodyear Eagle F1
2-ContiSportContact
3-Toyo Proxes T1-S
4-Pirelli (PZero?)
5-Michelin Pilot Sport
6-Dunlop SP Sport 9000
7-Bridgestone S-03
8-Avon ZZ3

Yeah, many tire weenies don't consider the S03 to be a true ultra performance tire. The S2000 guys hate it, consider it inferior the S02's that came on that car, and have labelled it an all season tire.

The in-house engineers at Kumho did not target the S03 as a competitor for their MX when they were designing the MX, rather they targeted the F1 and the BFG KD, said by them to be the reigning performance kings.

OTOH, seemingly lots of bimmer folks like the S03. Go figure.

"2-ContiSportContact"

This is the proof that they don't know what they are talking about. The Continental are the crappiest tires you'll ever put on a performance car. I had a set of these and they suck on dry or wet roads.

This would me my list:

1.Michelin Pilot Sport
2.Goodyear Eagle F1
3.Toyo Proxes T1-S
4.Bridgestone S-03
5.Pirelli (PZero?)
6.Dunlop SP Sport 9000
7.ContiSportContact
Avon ZZ3 (never tried these, I think its only available in europe)

I put a set of SO3s on my M3 4 months ago and love them, they are as good as and better than any other tire I have used, wet or dry and at the limit grip and over the limit recovery. I had two sets of SO2s and I like the SO3s better and there holding up better.

I just took the M3 out after not driving it for about 4 months. So my review of S03's is based on driving an E30 for the entire 4 months with 4 mismatched 195/14 inchers.

These things are much better than the Michelin MXX3! Yippee. Overcooked it on a downhill and saved it without a peep that would have had me skidding on MXX3's. I'm really happy with them. More as I get used to them.

I just got S-03s on my new rims and they kick Yokohama AVS sports allover the place. Only thing is they make alot more road noise but with smaller tires I'm still getting more grip than the Yoko's. And Yoko's beat the heck outta Pilot Sports also in my experience...

Well, I ordred them anyway - I never even got to read the review and it's the first bad thing I've heard about them.

I got 265/40YR17's for the rear and 235/45YR17's for the front. I can't wait! The get mounted up on wednesday - guess I have 4 days to finish the rubber off on my crappy Dunlops. :evil2
