Guys, my car needs some paintin'.

I have always wanted to learn to do some basic auto-body on my own. But I'd like to learn from someone who knows what they're doing...I wouldn't be opposed to trying it out even. It's only paint, and if I botch it up, at least I learned in the process, and some pro can always clean up the mess.

The point is, my front valence is showing major road scars, as is the hood lip, and a couple nicks here and there on the car. It doesn't need a major respray, just touch up here and there. When the motor is out it will be a great time to get it done. Hopefully that day is almost here.

I had Alpine Auto do my last paint work, but man.... $$$$$ they are expensive. I was hoping to find someone to do some touch-up work for less money, but obviously I do care about the quality.

I know I can't have a free paint job and get top quality work, but somewhere in the middle would be nice...

We need a painter in the forum! Any recommendations?

I just can't vouch for anyone except Alpine and they are expensive...
Maybe ask BMW of Murray? Perhaps they have a recommendation.

They fixed exactly what you're talking about on my Dad's Slantnose. The guy that he bought it from just treated it like shit.

Anyway, that cost $1,800.
However that car has 29 coats of paint from the factory.
Call Lane at Alpine. He'll give you a quote.
They do good work, that's all I can say.

Funny you should say that. That is how I found Alpine in the first place. I asked the dealer and they had two recommendations. One of them was Alpine. The other I don't remember, but Alpine specialized almost exclusively in Porsche and BMW body work. The owner Lane told me about 90% of their work are Porsches and BMWs, and the other 10% are other makes. So they're used to the owners being pissy and picky. you get what you pay for though. They do good work, at least they did on my car.

But that was when someone else's insurance was paying for it... :D

Now that it's ME paying, I'm not as GENEROUS with my dollars...
