Curious what the turbo S52's (350-450whp) are getting for fuel mileage as of lately? I know I shouldn't care but I am just wondering what to expect how it will do when im not beating on it.

ParadigmGuy 05-06-2005, 09:44 PM Generally it will get better gas mileage than it did in stock form, unless you're on it. OZ3M 05-06-2005, 10:13 PM I get 17-18 most of the time. Highway off boost gets me mid 20s. 2.79 rearend though. :) Vitolo 05-06-2005, 10:39 PM nice! Omer I saw your name in the thread preview and thought "oh HIS reply should be interesting!" lol That's pretty good considering the power you're making. I gotta get another ride from you one of these days...last time was just a 1st-2nd gear quickie about 200whp ago! :stickoutt Bassmaster 05-06-2005, 10:54 PM I avg on a tank of 93 octane 340 city and about 400 hwy. trthrrt489 05-07-2005, 12:11 AM I'm boosting around all over the place, and am going through the gas. I couldn't give you exact mpg numbers but off boost its about the same. Maybe I'm just getting used to it, but the gas trigger is being constantly pulled. grecobeemer 05-07-2005, 02:56 AM Prob about the same gas mileage is used, I figure. The reason is more gas to get up hills and such in a NA car. And with boost, lighter foot+more power=Same gas, I guess. themadhatter 05-07-2005, 06:52 AM I avg on a tank of 93 octane 340 city and about 400 hwy. that's crazy! I average about 240-260 city and 320 highway....NA. :eyecrazy jasonknezo 05-07-2005, 08:15 AM that's crazy! I average about 240-260 city and 320 highway....NA. :eyecrazy as do i, wierd, i NEVER get over 310-320 miles on a tank, a buddy of mines 94 rx7 gets 220 a tank if that guess were not tooo bad themadhatter 05-07-2005, 08:20 AM as do i, wierd, i NEVER get over 310-320 miles on a tank, a buddy of mines 94 rx7 gets 220 a tank if that guess were not tooo bad rotaries were never known for great mileage or efficiency. However, getting better mileage with a turbo just means I'm just gonna be a happier bimmerhead. :D OZ3M 05-07-2005, 09:10 AM rotaries were never known for great mileage or efficiency. However, getting better mileage with a turbo just means I'm just gonna be a happier bimmerhead. :D Are you guys assuming same fuel tank volume? Mine is 13.5 gal. :) jasonknezo 05-07-2005, 09:47 AM hmm what is an e36 fuel tank volume?, have to look today after the 33 dollar gas bill :( Vitolo 05-07-2005, 10:58 AM 16.5gal E36bmer 05-07-2005, 12:53 PM I get 17-18 most of the time. Highway off boost gets me mid 20s. 2.79 rearend though. :) That's pretty good, I get low 20's on the interstate, but the with the car sitting at 4000 for hours on end it doesn't really get good MPG, Mine's N/A. Also, the most I've ever put in my tank was 16.43 gal RRdawho? 05-07-2005, 02:11 PM Makes sense w/ the turbos though. Your re-using exhaust gas and converting it back into energy for the engine, thus making it more efficient ASSUMING you drive w/ a normal foot. themadhatter 05-07-2005, 02:23 PM Are you guys assuming same fuel tank volume? Mine is 13.5 gal. :) perhaps but even 3 gallons shy, that's still over 100 miles less range. still beautiful cars either way you look at it. :) Josh 05-07-2005, 02:37 PM About 150 miles per tank. Bassmaster 05-07-2005, 02:53 PM that's crazy! I average about 240-260 city and 320 highway....NA. :eyecrazy I think some of the milage could be contributed to the larger gas tank? The other could be the tec III....Im running it a little leaner in the cruising non boosted zones... its around 15:1 TO 15:5 A/F ratio's I've filled up in Atlanta and did not put any gas in the car until the day after I got home...Atlanta to Durham is about 375miles....and I was running pretty hard driving back with the NOPI crowd. Scho 05-07-2005, 03:03 PM I get 19-20 mpg in the city, traffic driving and 25-26 mpg on highway trips. It is not much different than stock. That i moderately boosting. I drove the car hard all week this week as my last hoorah with it and I still got over 18 mpg in the city alone. Vitolo 05-08-2005, 12:14 AM Is it finally sold Mike? Stevefazek 05-08-2005, 12:18 AM i burnt half a tank in 75 miles once. i am NA and if i drive with out getting on it much i can get 380 a tank. If i speed and get on it i normally can get 275 a tnak slvr98 M 05-08-2005, 11:41 AM I get about 25 mpg on the highway. slcook54 05-08-2005, 12:57 PM as do i, wierd, i NEVER get over 310-320 miles on a tank, a buddy of mines 94 rx7 gets 220 a tank if that guess were not tooo bad If you aren't breaking 300 miles per tank, you should definitely check something. Fuel filter, air filter, O2 sensor. I saw an increase of about 30-50 miles per tank after changing my air filter and O2 sensor. I can always break 300, I usually hit about 320-340 street and can break 400 on the Freeway. I drive semi-agressive. I'm not WOT every chance I get, but any onramps or bridge underpasses, definitely. Excidium28 05-09-2005, 03:11 AM My car says im gettin 23mpg which is bullshit I feel like im gettin 14, with AA SC..... on 19" wheels. Vitolo 05-09-2005, 04:22 AM Does anyone know if the ~$300 Dinan control module that corrects the OBC will work with higher power/bigger injector setups than an 8psi SC? I'd like to keep the fuel consumption features accurate if possible. I'd assume thats your problem Excidium - the OBC is no longer calibrated properly. MrBlonde 05-09-2005, 04:43 AM Fuel consumption - not your average FI BMW concern! I'd hate to think what my fuel consumption is. With the 45 litre tank on an M Coupe you can literally watch the gauge go down. slcook54 05-09-2005, 01:08 PM Does anyone know if the ~$300 Dinan control module that corrects the OBC will work with higher power/bigger injector setups than an 8psi SC? I'd like to keep the fuel consumption features accurate if possible. I'd assume thats your problem Excidium - the OBC is no longer calibrated properly. I'm also curious about this, if Dinan has figured it out, I'm sure someone else has also. hydromen 05-09-2005, 02:26 PM my first tank I did under 160 miles with it, well that was the first one now I average about 200 miles with it!! hukalaki 05-09-2005, 04:47 PM that's crazy! I average about 240-260 city and 320 highway....NA. :eyecrazy I agree, I get the same. That translates into about 16-17 mpg. When I first got the car I was only getting 14mpg. Gosh, I wonder why?? :devillook paul e 05-09-2005, 06:18 PM >>Does anyone know if the ~$300 Dinan control module that corrects the OBC will work with higher power/bigger injector setups than an 8psi SC? I'd like to keep the fuel consumption features accurate if possible. << I believe its only supposed to work with their 28.8 injectors, as a correction device for their SC kit and their SC kit only. As for Turbo Gas mileage, I think Boris posted on this a long time ago.. I saw some of his mileage results after he got turboed, and I was incredibly impressed at how much better his mileage got .. Its just the total opposite of what happened to us SC guys.. My mileage is in the toilet. Im seeing about 18 mpg on a mixed loop city and thruway type traffic, and about 14-15 mpg city only, whereas boris was seeing in the mid 20s over mixed use type of circuit. Cant say its the tuning: we both have Nick :) Its strictly the hardware, and the design inefficiencies of driving a pulley system. themadhatter 05-10-2005, 08:29 AM does anyone know how bad a low compression setup will effect mileage? |
