View Full Version : Thanks Understeer (Chris)
phillyB///M3 05-06-2005, 12:38 PM Just wanted to leave some positive comments about Understeer.com. This is my 4th purchase through them, I just received my Stromung exhaust and I'm very happy with the whole transaction. Not only did I get a good deal but Chris kept me updated as to when It would be here.
The exhaust was packaged nicely and I love the exhaust.
Thanks again Chris, always a positive experience when dealing with understeer :)

bimmer95 05-06-2005, 12:58 PM Thanks Phill, glad your exhaust got built quick :)
phillyB///M3 05-10-2005, 01:57 AM Yes it did, thanks again. :buttrock
bms429 05-10-2005, 01:02 PM First off, let me say thanks for a great transaction. I love the way the exhaust looks on the car. However, we did have a hard time getting the sucker to fit on with the existing metal o-ring as per Chris' instructions. The long side of the exhaust pipe was just a bit too big in diameter to meet the existing pipe and o-ring. We ended up replacing the o-ring with a sightly larger one and that seemed to work. Just some feedback that you might be able to send to the manufacturer.
Overall, I have been pleased with the service and product.
Thanks Chris.

Never heard of that one before, do you have any pictures? Stromung is always eager to hear anything that can be improved on.
bms429 05-10-2005, 03:42 PM I dont have pics right now, but I will try to get some. Basically, the metal o-ring was too small to seal the exhaust. Like I said, we put in a bigger one and it is sealed fine for now.

My Remus is like that too, I just thought all M3 exhaust had one side of the pipe longer than the other..Its a lil bit of a PIA to get it in there perfectly but it should slide in more if you push it in hard enough plus the flanges will seal it also.. I Havent installed my Stromung yet but I will soon. :)
bimmer95 05-10-2005, 03:47 PM Email them to me if you get a chance. It's possible that the sealing ring on your car wasn't stock because I've definitely never seen that issue before.
bms429 05-10-2005, 03:52 PM Well, I can guarantee that the exhaust system was all stock. We had a hell of a time getting the rusted nuts and bolts off. I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page. It was on the longer pipe and the connection was just flared a little too much to seal with that original o-ring. All is good now and I am happy with things otherwise.
bimmer95 05-10-2005, 04:25 PM I'll let them know. A couple years back, they were making the pipe so tight that it require a lot of twisting to slide that pipe on, maybe they went a tiny bit to loose now.
bms429 05-10-2005, 05:16 PM Like I said in my original post, great guy to deal with.
Thanks Chris!!!
supark 05-10-2005, 05:28 PM agreed - just ordered some ellipsoid lights from Chris - seemed like a standup guy.
RenegadeBMW 05-19-2005, 01:20 AM I'm in the market place for a new muffler myself, I was wondering if you could give me some insight as to what made you switch from the Remus to Stromung. What I've read so far the Remus is quieter. I am looking to get a deeper tone, not one that will wake the neighbors when I'm coming down the road. Any advise will help, thanks.
phillyB///M3 05-19-2005, 03:37 AM Well the Remus came with my car when I bought it so I really didnt pick it at first. Dont get me wrong, I love the Remus... when I say its "quiet" in no way am I saying its "silent." It has a low deep tone that can definetly be noticed but is not as loud as other exhaust when driving at WOT. I've had it for 3 years and have been completely satisfied with it but I just thought I'd go with something else. I love the way Stromung sounds, I've heard it on other members cars. Stromung sounds tamed a low RPM's but gets pretty loud at WOT. I think when people say the Remus is "quiet" their comparing it to UUC or B&B Tri flo. Those are loud as sh't.... I cant even hear my exhaust when I'm hitting WOT next to a car with one of those exhausts. I drove next to a friend of mine with an AA exhaust and they pretty much sound alike with the AA being a little louder but the Remus having the deeper tone. As far as the neighbors hmmmmm... have you heard the stock G35 exhaust tone? it sounds about as loud as that... you can hear it coming down the street but in no way is it loud and disturbing the neighborhood. I think the Remus is the perfect exhaust for some one who wants a nice low deep tone from 1k-4.5k it also gets a little louder at 4.5K+ but not too loud. I dont know if this helped but I tried.
RenegadeBMW 05-19-2005, 07:42 PM Thanks, I know it is hard to describe the sound with out an actual example. All I have heard is sond clips from the internet, which are not always accurate. I was just wondering if you decided to change for sound level reasons or what.

LittleBlueBMW 05-20-2005, 01:53 PM From start to finish, placed my order and got the parts in 36 hours. Awesome deals, as always, and tons of technical help, no bs. Thanks Chris! Now to save up for the exhaust (Stromung). :)
jrhaile 05-20-2005, 05:56 PM Since we're all appraising Chris I'll throw my comments in too. I got my stromung exhaust about 2 weeks later then expected. Wasn't Chris' fault but he kept my updated so I was happy with it. I got my fan delete and pulley's 2 days after ordering. He's a standup guy and I will be purchasing all my next stuff from him this summer. Thanks Chris!
///MacDaddy 05-21-2005, 06:33 AM Understeer is GREAT! Chris is one of the most knowledgeable vendors on bf.c and always willing to give advice when needed.....Great prices and shipping too! Don't think I've ever heard a negative comment about Understeer. Not many vendors, if any, can claim that. Keep up the good work, Chris!

///M_Nicht 05-31-2005, 01:06 PM I've ordered a couple things from Chris, and had no issues at all.
On top of that, he's very helpful...even upwards of a year after I last ordered anything from him.
Good man, good business.
I'm in the market for a couple more things very soon, and I look forward to ordering from Understeer.com
Post some pics of the 'stang!
BMLRacer 05-31-2005, 01:25 PM I saw the old 'Stang last friday. It's coming along, but you wouldn't belive the core support some guy sold Chris! That thing was solid as a rock, in fact, it was so solid that no a single breeze of air will flow to the rad :)

There's some old ones in this thread, http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40293&page=1&pp=25 I'll post up some new ones once my front coilover show up this weekend and I can put the car back on the ground. At that point I'll be a radiator bracket and a brake fluid flush away from pulling it out of the garage under its own power. Seeing as it only has headers and an H-pipe at the moment, I'm sure the neighbors will be thrilled :devillook
