Dude, you're going to have to do some of your own leg work. You can't expect to come here and ask people to tell you what is going to work best for you.
Find the RMS rating for the UP36 components and buy a quality amp with rated output at or slightly above the recommended power rating.
A better approach to what you're trying to ask is to go research and select a few different amps. Then, when you have done your homework, come back and ask our opinions on the specific amps you have picked out.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 11:09 AM well the problem is im still getting used to understanding these amp ratings and what not..im better at researching speakers..but when it comes to amps im pretty noob. still trying to understand it all... im not trying to get your guys to do the work..im just trying to get an idea of the amps you suggest then i do hw on why you chose those for me.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 11:11 AM another reason why im asking is cause i know that the rms rating of these components are 150w rms...now if what your telling me is correct..ill need to find an amp that puts out either 150x4 or 150x2...see that's my dilemma..im not sure where i need a x4 or a x2...or maybe evena x6 if necessary since it's going to be a 3 way? you know?
Benny Z 05-06-2005, 11:13 AM Amps are a pretty simple thing to understand...
You've got mono, 2 channel, 4 channel, and 5 channel amps.
You need a 2 channel amp that will produce ~150 watts per channel @ 4 ohms and 12.5 volts. That should give you a pretty nice match for those components.
If you intend to add a sub in the future, consider a 4-channel amp. That way you can use the front two channels for your components and you can bridge the rear two channels for a sub. ...or you can just add a dedicated second amp when you add a sub.
For reference, I will be using a PPI (Precision Power) PCX-4125 4-channel amp to drive my UP35 component set and a single 12" sub wired for a 4 ohm load on the rear channels.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 11:29 AM thx man for the explanation..i already have a dedicated amp for my sub so i dont have to worry about that. but as for the 4 channel, i can run my components of the 2 of the channels and then run the rears of the other 2? and damn i need to find a 150x4 amp..that's going to cost a pretty penny hahaa.
Benny Z 05-06-2005, 11:31 AM Remove your rear speakers and just purchase a quality 2x150 amp.
The rear speakers are just going to clash with and confuse your front stage.
You don't want that...especially with those nice quality DLS components.
Removing the rear speakers will also allow more bass to enter the cabin from your sub.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 11:35 AM good point man. thx... you know this audio forum acutally gives help lol..i went to caraudio.com...posted a couple questions about the DLS speakers of CDT i forogt which one..and it's been almost 3 days not a single response haha..oh well..but thx benny. where from illinois you from? im from no.chicago & des plaines
Benny Z 05-06-2005, 11:38 AM I live in the middle of the state...Bloomington/Normal area (ISU's home).
Not sure if you had already found this or not, but there is a great review of those UP36 components here - http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0301cae_dls/index.html
Pay attention to the tweeter phase change comments...I'm going to experiment with that with my set. I'll probably set the midrange driver to the "low" setting on the crossover and change the phase of the tweeter. Seems that they got the best results that way.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 12:01 PM wow seems as if car and audio isnt that impressed with the system itself..i wonder if the speakers are going to sound that bad. what do you think? i wonder how im going to have to wire these bad boys..

I think you misinterpreted some of the rating. I don't believe CA's review is negative of the soud of the speakers, rather the design of the crossover unit. Some tweeking is needed to make them sing at their full potential. Most high end audio equipment requires fine tuning...just as a high performance automobile needs tuning to run properly.
I have no doubt that you will be more than satisfied with the set.
Wiring should be a snap. Simply tie into the factory twisted-pair speaker wire at the OEM amplifier connector.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 01:46 PM yea sorry about that last post of mine i had to reread it...i wasnt fully awake haha..but yea i found my amp!!! im thinking about the phoenix gold x200.4. what you think about that amp?
Sephiroth619 05-06-2005, 02:05 PM Denver, definately let us all know how you like them. I was staring at the DLS UR6's all day yesterday and I'm seriously considering getting them.
denverlicious 05-06-2005, 02:43 PM yea np ill let you know..it'll prolly happen within the next 2 weeks. just getting everything together.. but yea..im pretty sure that if the UP's sound good..the UR's will sound a buttload better
