Hi all, I was driving my 2002 the other day when I noticed something that scared me. I was speeding at around 70 miles per hour, and I took my foot off the accelerator to stop at the intersection. The speedometer went to 67mph and a loud bang backfire occurred. I was curious of what caused such a loud backfire, so I speeded to 70 again, and the same LOUD backfire occurred. Does anybody know why it backfired so loudly? Is it because the carburetor's air to fuel ratio is not adjusted Maybe too much fuel ran through? Any advice or help is appreciated.

-Yes, sounds like incomplete combution from an over-rich mixure. When your throttle closed and air stopped flowin. the carbourator was still providing fuel with didn't burn until it hit your hot exhaust valves.
-So, yes, the carb's the culprit.

Fantastic, thanks for the info. How do I know if the gas mixture is right? Should I increase the air intake, or just lower the fuel mixture?

yeah, I just lowered the gas intake, and it doesn't backfire anymore. I go 80mph and it won't backfire. Thanks.
