Hi all, I was wondering if anybody would know the advantages of switching a stock OEM alternator, with a factory replacement alternator (aftermarket)? Do you recommend that I do that? How much could I buy a replacement aftermarket alternator? This is for a 1976 BMW 2002. :redspot :alright

The only advantage is replacing a broken alternator with a working alternator=functional charging system. Or swapping for a higher amperage alternator to power a big sterio system.... Or, swapping for a mini low amperage racing alternator for less drag=more hp.
Otherwise stock works well.

So, does it necessarily mean that if I swap mines with a higher amperage one, it will give higer performance advantages? Basically provides more power for stereo and lights?

-Yes because the alternator will be providing more power for you to use (for electrical purposes, that is)

Yes... i recommend using an alternator from a e30 318i it's either a 80 or 90 amp alt.. and it's good if your running an electric fan, radio/amps, or alot of electrical devices...
