Nice work. euro4life 05-04-2005, 12:39 AM Holy crap! Is that thing legal to race? Nice work. Yeah, MY balsa wood derby car never looked like that... :( BIMMERBOYZ 05-04-2005, 02:04 AM That car does not pass regulations :nono . Very nice though scouts honor SehrSchnell 05-04-2005, 02:13 AM holy batsmoke robin. Porsche silver too? Teh Slows 05-04-2005, 10:01 AM I could take it in the twisties. YLOJAKT 05-04-2005, 10:04 AM :buttrock Love the dubs... chasmanbmwfan 05-04-2005, 11:34 AM Okay, I've got to come clean. That's not my car. I was looking on the Internet for some plans for a pinewood derby that would look like a BMW. While searching, I came across an article describing how Chris Bangle and his designer buddies at BMW had a pinewood derby contest. This was one of the cars they came up with. I'll post some pics of our sad car a little later. Here's another pic from the BMW pinewood derby. Makr 05-04-2005, 11:50 AM A guy I used to work with spent months on his sons pinewood derby. He did a batman car a couple of years ago, digitized it on the CMM, then cut it in a mill. It would cost you 30/40k to have one done like that. Garretts last one was less than stellar.:( Dads fault. Antwerp 05-04-2005, 11:57 AM I use to put lead weights in mine after they weighed it. chasmanbmwfan 05-04-2005, 12:54 PM That's a great idea. The only heat we won was when Chase gave the car a turbo boost with his finger when they dropped the gate. The extra weight would have been a little more subtle. It's still cool but I believe it reflects some phalic (sp?) symbol maybe? :dunno chasmanbmwfan 05-04-2005, 06:22 PM I was going to say "By popular demand..." but I see there is absolutely no demand for these pics. Oh well, here are some pics of our Pinewood Derby. It was inspired by a 30-30 cartridge (Winchester model 94 lever action -- one of my favorite guns). We finished near the back of the pack, but had a lot of fun making the car. The kid who won bought his car already cut out and used after market solid axles, whereas we used the nails that came with the kit. Chas chasmanbmwfan 05-04-2005, 06:23 PM Rear view. I always used to break the wood when I was attempting to put those darn nails in. Mine were never that cool. Though my dad wasn't around and my mom was no help with tools. Makr 05-04-2005, 07:01 PM Its hard to compete with some of those dads who have done this through several sons. I swear Garrett competed against cars that had been tweaked and ploished for years. When the dad has to fix the timing lights for the owner of the track you know you are in trouble.:eyecrazy |
