View Full Version : to be Badgeless? or not to be
sil0kin 05-03-2005, 11:19 PM ok ok ok. Many disagree, but on the other hand some agree, no roundells. Or no rear and only front, or no front and only rear. Can anyone give their opinion to help me make up my mind?. Ive tried p-shop'n a pic but i can never get the right angle of a picture to do it on. Please feel free to give ur opinion and why?... :buttrock :alright :eyecrazy :redspot :rolleyes :) :stickoutt ;)
MattE21 05-03-2005, 11:31 PM roundels should be left on the car, and in original white/blue trim. dont mess with them!
my $0.02
blitzed310 05-03-2005, 11:35 PM I would never shave the holy grail of any of my bimmers, ever...
The model badge however is a different story.
Please keep them
oldskool3 05-04-2005, 03:34 AM I have thought about removing the model badge off the e21 a lot but still can't decide wether or not to do it. The roundels on the other hand I would never touch. Nothing looks better than a new blue and white roundel IMO. Please keep it.
uberpanzer 05-04-2005, 07:13 AM I too say keep them, but get new ones (esp if you're are faded or chipped). IT really makes the car look nicer. Removing them would also mean filling in the spots where they were with bondo and then painting. Not sure if you want to do that. Otherwise they leave an empty round spot (in front at least, can't remember about the rear). It makes it look like something is missing (mainly since it IS!!!).
djminkin 05-04-2005, 08:24 AM Yeah I would leave them, it looks stupid with an empty round ditch on the front and back of the car. You can pickup a new set on Ebay for pretty cheap if yours are worn out.
sirtiger 05-04-2005, 09:34 AM keep it.... looks way nicer :)
kdanielson 05-04-2005, 10:32 AM If you were to remove them there are 2 ways to correctly fill the relief in the bodywork. First is to cut it out and weld in a correctly shaped piece (it's not flat) then metal finish it. Second is to fill it with lead-old school and hazardous to your health, difficult to find someone that knows lead work these days. Just slaping some bondo in is NOT going to last.
New roundels really DOES make a big difference. I say loose the model emblem though.

blitzed310 05-04-2005, 12:14 PM Ive seen lead work done, and actually gave it a shot, it looked relatively easy, but you have to heat the metal up exactly to a certain point then use the rod to blend in the lead, the trick is to not let it drip, very cool technique, I should learn more on this...
kdanielson 05-04-2005, 01:15 PM I learned to do lead back in the '70's, it's actually faster than Bondo because you don't have to wait for it to dry before you can work it. There is a large health concern due to the vapors from the molten lead which can cause SERIOUS problems like dain bramage.... Correct application the first time is critical-you can't add more if you don't get it correct and the acids used to prep the metal prior to tinning need to be fully neutralized or it will ruin your paint. Eastwood still sells all the stuff to do lead.

Cerpin TaxT 05-04-2005, 01:33 PM i just had to replace my back roundel, the emblem flaked off completly when i closed the trunk. my finger was on the emblem and it just came off. i think it looks better to have the emblem and model name. im badgeless but not by choice (it was like that when i bought it).
personally, id remove the model name and replace it with a "320i" badge from a E46 in the new style badging.
sil0kin 05-05-2005, 12:10 AM thanx guys. I know the roundels do give it its look. Thanx again :) (i just figured try to be different. but im gona keep em ;)
