View Full Version : New to the forum - Hi all!
flyboyM535i 05-03-2005, 10:39 PM Actually, I'm not *new* to bimmerforums, just the Southwest section. I never noticed it was here before today.
Earlier tonight I pulled into an Autozone in South Jordan and saw a beautiful E36 M3. I parked my M535i next to it. It was a really nice example of what the E36 should be. Nice blue color. I checked it out for a minute before heading into the shop.
While I was in there, I saw the M3 leave...I was bummed, I was hoping to make it out before he left so I could chat with the owner for a minute. Luckily he left me a DriveAddict card on my windshield, with directions to come here! Turns out his name was Matt...
So here I am. Hope to get to know a few of you. I've been to a few BMWCCA events in the SLC area, but have spent most my time heavily involved with the E28 crowd on a nationwide level...interestingly, I've only met one other E28 enthusiast in Utah! I was on the staff for last year's 5erFest in San Diego - all E28s and E12s. That was a blast. But I have failed miserably to solidify some good friendships here in the valley. Hopefully I'll meet some of you soon.
My car is an Euro E28 M535i. I use the term "Euro" redundantly, all M535is are Euros...
Anyway, I have an engine coming into Salt Lake City on Wednesday - I need to go pick it up on Thursday at the Roadway Terminal (wherever that is) and bring it home for my turbo project. I'm hoping to pull 350 HP out of this baby by June. It should be a fun project. The motor is an M30B34 block, and I've pulled the head off in favor of a head from an M30B35, with the intake - for the larger valves. It should drop the compression favorably for a turbo application. The turbo is a TCD Stage 1, (http://www.turbochargingdynamics.com) hopefully I'll be able to go stage 2 by this fall.
I will be pulling the Euro high compression motor out of the M535i soon when I do the motor swap. It would be fun to get together when I do the motor swap if any of you would like to come lend a hand :)
I'm hoping to get the car done soon so I don't miss any fun drives.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Cheers,
///Molloy 05-03-2005, 10:59 PM CLAY!!

SehrSchnell 05-04-2005, 02:11 AM Hey there Clay,
Yes, Matt arrived at my house and told me all about your ride and how fabulous it appeared. He mentioned the Wasatch CCA decal so I was trying to think if I had met you before at any of the WBMWCCA meets? I had a black E34 535i before and recently purchased a 97 DINAN 5 (in my sig pic).
Are you a resident of South Jordan? I am and same with Dane, who you probably already know from the club.
Can't wait to see the project man!
Kind regards,
Johnny

///Molloy 05-04-2005, 11:36 AM If I remember correctly, Mark once told me that an E28 M5 was (one of) his DREAM automobiles.
Macker, when you see Clay's 535, you just might faint. It is unreal.
I actually spotted it on 106 South way before I got into autozone.
It is clean, and I'll bet FAST as hell. :)

flyboyM535i 05-05-2005, 01:19 AM Wow...I certainly didn't expect such a nice welcome. You guys are great. I just found out that my new motor has arrived today. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow if I can find a truck to borrow, and a cherry picker to borrow so I can get it unloaded at my house.
Clay,
Welcome to the hood.

Sure thing - there are tons of pics at my website, but here's a few of the rims and brakes:
here's the t-stars right after I finished refinishing them:

here's the brakes:

and here's after I put the 4-pot Brembos and huge rotors on (wheel lips were dirty):

lots more pics where that came from:
http://www.tycksen.com/bmw/ scroll way down for more galleries...also check out Bimmer magazine, April 2005 (Issue 49, i think) pages 99-101 for more pics of my car at 5erFest (and a bad pic of me too). Look for me, Clayton Tycksen.
guys, when's the next event?
and Matt, thanks for the card. I want to go for a ride in your E36. Is that Estoril Blue? What color is that? It's a beautiful ride. You should be very proud.

Well it IS fast as hell. But don't forget - the M535i and 535i are two different beasts completely. Different motors, different suspensions, different body kits, different driving experience. I love my M535i. It gets up and goes, but I can NOT wait to get the turbo motor in... MAN OH MAN.... it gives me a chubby thinking about it. LOL
flyboyM535i 05-05-2005, 01:31 AM Welcome Clay.
Your E28 looks gorgeous. :cool
Thanks - are you Josh? I think I met you and your brother Kai (sp?) at Eurosport when you put a Jim C chip in my other E28 a year ago...
SehrSchnell 05-05-2005, 02:07 AM Nice ride man. Just got done peeking at all the photos on your site. Very impressive!
I could assist you with the engine pick up in my truck, however am heading off to Moab tomorrow morning. So sorry.
Good luck!
I have a truck. Its sole purpose in life is hauling go fast parts, karts, and motorcycles.

How about go-fast motors? How about some time today? :) I would LOVE the help! I just secured a truck through a family member, but it won't be available until after 4PM. It would be nice to get the motor earlier than that.
No problem on the truck, im open today, so anytime. We can prolly steal the cherry picker from Eurosport too. 809-4078 cell, Mark.
