View Full Version : Unknown facts - Let's hear them
SehrSchnell 05-02-2005, 11:38 PM Louis's thread prompted this. State three unknown facts (interesting) about yourselves that we didn't know about. I'll start.
1. I was a band geek in highschool and played the clarinet
2. My mother used to cut my hair and it always looked like a girl in elementary school.
3. The last time I weighed what I do now was when I was 18 :( (this is a good thing)

SLC///M3 05-03-2005, 12:40 AM 1. My step father is a commercial fisherman, so as a teenager I would spend the summers with him on the boat catching shrimp, red snapper and king mackeral.
2.I have been working for the same company ,off and on in the beginning, for almost 17 years.
3.I worked on a 117 foot yacht for almost a year when I was 21 years old. There were 5 of us who lived on the boat, the captain, the stewardess, the cook, the engineer and myself. The owner would never ride in the yacht, he would just tell us where to bring the boat and he would meet us there. Part of my job was entertaining guests, they would have me water ski off the little boat (17 foot) so the kids could watch me, scuba dive to get the owner conchs(snails for those who dont know), and also take the kids on the jet skis which they had 2 of. The best job ever !!!
croberts12 05-03-2005, 12:47 AM 1) I used to play the saxaphone. I just quit at the begining of the school year (septemberish).
2)I used to be a donut boy for tastys donuts until I quit cuz the job sucked, I was underpaid, and I hated it. (then a couple months later they got busted for child labor reasons, hehe)
3) I mowed my lawn today and it took me 5 hours.
2002maniac 05-03-2005, 01:29 AM 1) I used to play the clarinet too!

2. In 1970 I went in with my brother to buy our first car (I was 12 years old). We each pitched in $50 to buy the 1959 Chevy Impala. Our first mod was raising the rear suspension (as was the style in those days) by welding long bolts around a couple pieces of pipe to make a raised spring perch.

3. Deep in my heart I think that a low milage, clean E36 M3 is better than a brand new E46 M3.
I used to be a classic Mustang nut (still love them). In High school I had an "R" code '69 Mach 1, which I will never be able to affored again.
I love to read.
I truely like working, not so much the paperwork thing, but building things.
black325isgirl 05-03-2005, 10:26 AM Hmmm. I don't know if there's much that at least some of you don't know about me, but here goes anyway...
I have a blue belt in karate (Kenpo) :shifty
My brother and I are the black sheep of the entire family :devillook
One of my deepest darkest secrets is that a friend convinced me to try out for cheerleader with her in HS. (Of course I didn't make it since I was busy taking karate instead of wussy dance classes :ninja)

1) I'm a nerd and always have been... As such; I enjoy Math, Technology, Reading, and many other things that involve no human interaction.
2) I am a financial whore as much as I am a post whore, however, I do try to be ethical as possible. I come from a very proud family that believe in strong moral values.
3) Also, I come from a huge family of 9 kids and we are not mormon. It's sort of the Brady Bunch (His Hers & Ours). We are very tight and have a relationship like one would observe in a Fraternity or Sorority House.
///Molloy 05-03-2005, 12:39 PM 1. I was arrested when I was 18 and charged with Criminal Mischeif, a class B misdeamnor in Freehold New Jersery. I defended myself and the case was thrown out.
2. I attended Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho (now called BYU Idaho I think) for 1 semester. (they were called "quarters" back then)
3. During Law School, I wrote, directed and shot a short film called Greater Expectations, it was a film about attending law school.
I shot it on a Hi-8 camera and edited and rendered the whole thing on a Pentium II, 233mhz computer with 8 gigs of storage. The film was submitted as my "Final Project" for a Law School class. I got an A.
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 12:52 PM 1. I rode in a rodeo (bareback) the summer after high school and only lasted about two seconds.
2. I painted houses in high school and college. These were the days before fresh-air respirators; consequently, I've been high more times than most of you (passed out a couple of times) despite trying to avoid booze and drugs. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I still had all my brain cells.
3. Band nerd in high school (seems to be a common denominator). Played the trombone and even got into the "A" Jazz Band at USU as a freshman. This was the most exhilarating musical experience of my life. Jamming two days a week with the best musicians I'd ever played with was so fun -- I was a big Maynard Ferguson fan.
///Molloy 05-03-2005, 12:56 PM and even got into the "A" Jazz Band at USU as a freshman.
USU?
are you also an Aggie?
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 12:58 PM USU?
are you also an Aggie?
Yes and no. I transferred to the U after one year and spent the rest of my undergraduate career there.
chmdrm 05-03-2005, 02:07 PM Wow. Everyone was a band geek but me and I made a living out of it. Well a bit.
We now need to do a dA jam session. Mel can be the cheerleader.
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 02:16 PM Geoff,
What was your band and your stage name back in the day?
Guitarist >> Band Nerd
We aspired to be that cool.

chmdrm 05-03-2005, 02:43 PM I was also the 5th Beatle.

Antwerp 05-03-2005, 03:04 PM You knew Mcartney??? Sweet!
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 03:11 PM It's always fun to rub shoulders with the rich and famous. Now I've got a new name to drop when I get together with my Canadian friends, eh?
 Very interesting thread......
1. I too played in marching band. (In TX its a big thing ala Friday Night Lights & that one movie with the kid from Dawsons Creek and John Voight). Although for a much longer period into college.... it got me free trips to the Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl (we got pasted by Florida and K-State respectively), and a few Big East B-Ball tourneys in NYC at Madison Sq Garden.
2. On one such band trip I got caught using the porta potties for Buffalo Bills chearleaders by a cheerleader. A dare from friends it was quite funny in front of the whole group.
3. I hate living in Utah..... even though I now have a good job and met my wife here.
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 03:50 PM This thread reminds me of a party game we play occasionally where you say two things about yourself that are true and one that is false and the guests have to guess the falsity.
YLOJAKT 05-03-2005, 03:52 PM can we make this thread a sticky? Mr. Moderator? Matt? Anyone?
It might be interesting to keep around for a while, do you think? :)
SehrSchnell 05-03-2005, 03:59 PM With the amount of ex-musicians in the crew, would could start up something mean!
:drummer :violinist :woot:
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 04:01 PM My guess is that most of us have lost our talent, and have been reduced to playing the CD player.
A dA marching band could be ugly.

Makr
Mr. Maboomba 05-03-2005, 06:16 PM I played the saxophone in school for seven years, in concert, marching, and jazz bands, but I was never spectacular and now I'd much rather listen to good music than create mediocre music. Everyone raves about how fun it is to play guitar, but I'd much rather just enjoy the sound than worry about making it.

2: I was asked by "the squad" to be a male cherleader cause I could toss the girls the furthest.
3: I've allways been sneaky about random things just for the sake of being sneaky.
And last but not least (just so you know)
4: Its actualy kind of dificult for me to get drunk, thanks in part of my size but also thanks in part to the fact that I started drinking when I was pretty young. Thus unless I realy set out to get hammered I won't get drunk.
SehrSchnell 05-16-2005, 12:43 PM Bump the best thread EVAR for ROUND TWO:
1B - I took Home Economics in Jr. High and learned how to sew and cook. One day during sewing, I went too fast for the machine and the needle broke and stuck in my cheek just under my eye. That is why I wear safety goggles while sewing now.
2B - I used to race BMW bikes with the ABA. Then, I started to get into freestyling but wasn't too successful at it, turfed often and hard. I bought a Mtn Bike then.
3B - At age 14, I took my Mother's 67 VW Bug out one night in the snow and took it rallying. I brought it back with three popped tires. (damn parking islands are easily covered in snow).
chmdrm 05-16-2005, 01:16 PM 1B - I took Interpersonal and group dynamics in university, did not read about it first. It was a night course and sounded slack and the grade was based on parcipitation. Turned out it was part of the woman’s studies program and I was the only guy in a class of older part time divorced men haters. We'd do "group projects" and I kept making the other members of my group cry. The teacher pulled me aside and told me that she would give me an A, but could I please not parcipitate as much.
2B - I have owned 4 motorcycles, wrecked them all as well as a friends Seca 750. The last time I was on a bike I took an MG 850 Lemans around the tri oval at Sanair, in shorts and a t shirt. I walked past a mirror after and had been going so fast the helmet had left a huge red imprint in my forehead. It has now been close to 15 years since I've been on one.
3B - At age 17, I flipped a 1G RX7 (looked just like the one Chas had, same color and everything) 5.5 times ass over tea kettle. 2 buddies in the car, Bob in back broke his back and nose (he was fine), Tim in front got over 100 stitches in different places, other then a bruise from undoing my seat belt and falling onto the roof I did not have a scratch.
4B - I grew up rich. Stupid rich. My dad was so tight however that I never even got an allowance and I've had to work for everything. I had a paper route until I was 18, and bought my first car with it. I made VP 5 years before he did however.
