View Full Version : Wheels for a Seven - Opinions Needed
chasmanbmwfan 05-02-2005, 09:47 PM A good friend of mine is looking to buy some new wheels for his Seven (no, this is not for me).
He likes the chrome, which I've told him is not a dA favorite. On some of the following models, he can get a staggered wheel. He's thinking 19x8 front and 19x9.5 rear. Some of these models only come in the same size all around. He's loosing a lot of sleep over whether to get a 20 or a 19. How much ride quality will he lose with 20s? But twenties will bling nicely! In some cases twenties are cheeper (easier to find). He is anxious to pick up something ASAP.
I've told him this group will be ruthlessly honest. Please don't hold back. If you hate something, it is helpful to say why.
Bad: "Those are teh gheys."
Good: "Those are teh gheys because my ex-wife's boyfriend has them on his Corvette"
Thanks in advance,
Chas

euro4life 05-02-2005, 10:00 PM Is this for an E38 or E65 7er
I like the first one, but dont care for the others.
chmdrm 05-02-2005, 10:04 PM I vote #5
BMW1023i 05-02-2005, 10:11 PM Personaly i dont like any chrome wheels on any BMW thats why BMW dosnt make any stock chrome wheels unless its polished aluminum... although if you really want them id go with number 1 or number 4 they nice and clean.... and for the size go with the 19 inch you dont wanna get 20 inch thats too big 19's will really make the car look nice esp wiht the 9.5 width ...
SehrSchnell 05-02-2005, 10:20 PM Hmm, I will be honest and say that I would not choose any of those on the 7er. Just way too blingy chrome thingy for me.
The 7 series is the grand poobah of the vessels. Treat it with something tasteful along the lines of the Hamann, Breyton, ACS, or other euro brands. The chrome thingys just don't go for me. Unless of course his name is "Shizzle my nizzle, yo"
:pimp
///Molloy 05-02-2005, 10:32 PM whats wrong with OEM 18" M-parallels ?
Those are the hotts.

E38 (sorry for that material omission).
BMW1023i 05-02-2005, 10:54 PM DEF GO WITH THE OEM M PARALLELS those are the sickest rims ... those im actauly waiting for in the mail to put on my 5 series... SICK ....
euro4life 05-02-2005, 11:07 PM If I HAD to pick one of those, I would pick #6.
otherwise go with these:
Jedi801 05-03-2005, 12:11 AM none of the above. :puke:
SehrSchnell 05-03-2005, 12:19 AM The wheels in the first pics of this thread:

As Matt would say, "so haught/hawt/hawtah right nowsers"
Jedi801 05-03-2005, 02:09 AM are those iForged's or J-Lines?
I like the straight spoke Alpina wheels.
YLOJAKT 05-03-2005, 11:15 AM I had to say #4 for the man who has no bling... :cashwalle
chasmanbmwfan 05-03-2005, 12:14 PM I got a report back from my friend this morning. He is very confused.
That means you guys did a very good job. Thanks.
Re: Chrome. My chrome wheels look like junk and they're only 3 years old and require tons of maintenance. Wheel Werks says to take them off in the winter. They're just too high maintenance for me -- I don't see myself buying any more chrome.
Other reasons to love or hate chrome?
YLOJAKT 05-03-2005, 12:25 PM Love the bling, hate the maint...that's about it! My wife's rims on her 323i are chromed replicas of the old M3 rims. They are great looking but already have pitting from where corrosion of the finish has started. I cleaned this wheels frequently during the winter, but still not enough. When they're done, I'm moving to alloy...

Jedi801 05-03-2005, 01:25 PM chrome is tacky. it belongs on low riders and SUV's. Anyone with real taste for wheels knows this.
tieguy 05-03-2005, 04:51 PM Mr. Chaser you have to clean them at least once a month! Hey I have realized everyone and their dog has an opinion! Oh well I guess I will have to pick by drawing a number!

More like twice a week -- which is why they're never clean. I HATE BRAKE DUST.
tieguy 05-05-2005, 02:43 AM Why is chrome so tacky???? I see 745's with GFG wheels in chrome (20" $6500.00 big bling dollars!) they look incredible!! So you need to bend down and rag the wheel. I personally enjoy and appreciate the car more when it needs TLC. Just a thought......
mrdezyne 05-05-2005, 12:53 PM I'd have to say #4 or #6 if these are the ones to pic from. Maybe look for something silver with a polished lip? :D
Sorry for busting into Utah, people in Oklahoma are dead today.......
ny-sevens 05-05-2005, 12:58 PM Please...please...direct your friend over to the 7ser. forums. He will be well informed from other E38 owners. :cool
No the nuclius of BFc knowlege comes from the Utah forum. They dont tell you that when you sign up, but it is fact.
Do not let him buy replica wheels, (IMO) be sure to get a wheel that is hub centric and has the EXACT bore. Hub bore spacers will drive him crazy and any flaw in his suspension will be amplified. (dealing with this on wifes e38).
chromie 4 dA Homies
tieguy 05-06-2005, 08:43 PM what do you think of the Axis Malano ? I just am not a rivit fan. The only ones I can find in chrome which I due like are the zenetti Stellas in 20x8.5 and 20 x 10. They have the look of a rivit but it isn't which I do like. TG
tieguy 05-06-2005, 08:47 PM Chaser Man I think I found my wheels. Since the zinetti fives are on back order I like the zenetti Stella in twenties staggard 8.5 in front and 10 in back. I was looking at the Axis Milano in twenties in a hyper silver with a polished lip. They are a close second but I am not a rivit fan. Anyones thoughts please.
jteef 05-06-2005, 09:04 PM he needs some 20" lorenzo spinnerZ brah!
on the real, please make him buy an offering from ACS, iforged, hre or some other wheel made for euro bling.
