Okay, here's the yak yak I started. Yeah, my name is spelled Louis, like the french guy with the trumpet.

I don't consider myself a noob because I registered 2 years ago but I've got a few minutes so ...

I met JB a few years ago when he owned a vw. A few years later I bought a BMW and that's how I got here. I've always been a car guy.

Here is a couple of my early projects, circa 1974. Have you ever wondered where all those nice big block 67 corvettes went? Some idiot "modified" them:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Outgoing/39_Chevy.jpg

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Outgoing/67_Corvette.jpg

I spent a lot of years working on air cooled vws, owned more than 20. I would buy a cheap old bug, fix it up over a year or two and then sell it and get another. I always made a few bucks and had a good time, kept me entertained for about 20 years.

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Outgoing/Baja.jpg

Then I moved to a new house with a smaller garage, got rid of the project cars and the basement full of parts. For about three years I had no car project. Then I bought a mkIV GTI. After about a year and a few mods I sold it looking like this:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Outgoing/euro_F25.jpg

Next I bought this mkII GTI for a daily driver:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Outgoing/front.jpg

After about two years and a few mods I sold it looking like this:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/DATR/DATR_7.jpg

Here’s the before and after dyno for the mkII, 93.8 whp to 215.9 whp:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/Swap/1.8_20v_Dyno.jpg

If you are really bored the whole agonizing 2003 1.8t and trans into mkII mod is detailed in 16 pages of this vwvortex thread: 1.8t into mkII (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=808137&page=1)

While the vw was under the knife I bought a 330ci for a daily driver. It was an excellent car, finest I had ever owned. Love that natural leather. But while shopping for the car I drove the e46 M3, after that the 330 never quite met my expectations:

http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/BMW/RR_Quarter.jpg
http://www.xmission.com/~hoggel/BMW/D_Interior.jpg

When I sold the mkII I was looking around for the next hobby car. I nearly bought a couple different E36 M3s. One nice white one in So Cal I was going to buy but it sold just as I made up my mind to get it. I think that one day I will still go there but I have also wanted a Porsche every since I can remember so I decided it was now or never.

There ... the story of my life. What about you?

That Vette looks bitchin'

You really are a car nut!

OK, so tell us who the girl is now!

:D How is it that whenever I post that pic in a thread that is all anyone sees? :D

I don't know who she is. The picture was taken at the Dubs Along The Rockies (DATR) show in Colorado Springs. She was walking around looking good so I asked her if I could get a pic of her next to my car ... you know, like the big boys in the magazines. She was very nice about it. She even apologized for not having a bikini. Sweet girl, about the age of my daughter.

Thanks for the history. That will send me scrambling to find my old car photos. My history isn't nearly as interesting as yours.
It would be fun to see what everyone else has been up to.

:wave Hi Louis! Interesting facts and pics!

I used to be a beetle man too! At age 16 and resorected my mothers 67 into a highschool cruisa. I have a ton of pics of all my old cars, but will have to share them with you at a later time as they are in a album.

A little about me: Born in Germany, half Italian, half German. Moved to Utah after mummy didn't want to raise me in Brooklyn. I love cars. In highschool I took second place in a VICA auto mechanics skills course. I also took third place in a jalapeno eating contest which would more than likely attribute to my gastric problems now. I love cars.

My old (& current) cars include, but are not limited to:

67 Beetle
82 Subaru
81 Celica
89 Supra
67 Camaro
88 Ramcharger
79 Monte Carlo

Melissa, we want your history soon.

Alrighty then....

I have lived in Utah my whole life. My entire family is mormon, other than my brother and me. :devillook

I spent my whole life thinking I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up and cruised through school only to find myself one semester away from a master's and not so sure anymore... :shifty

I have loved cars all my life. I used to have posters and drawings all over my walls. I never got to do much with cars as my dad is an accountant and not very mechanically inclined. (Angel, he doesn't even HAVE different colored highlighters!)

My car list is rather sad:

I started driving a '85 Cutlass Ciera that was so gutless you had to hit the gas 2 car lengths before the opening got to you to actually get moving in time, and the radio randomly went out untill you beat the shit out of it.

From there I moved up to another '85 Cutlass Ciera, but this time the Brougham Edition with the 3.6 V6. It was a pretty good sleeper since it looked like it was ready to fall apart. It was a sexy olive green color with the clear-coat flaking off and white vinyl on the back of the roof. It turned out to be stealth...

The first car I bought was a '95 Firebird. It was just a V6, but it was such an improvement over the others... I loved that car. Lost random things out of the T-tops on the freeway courtesy of friends, and ended up literally driving the wheels off the thing.

From my nifty insurance check I bought the E36. Went down to Texas to pick it up only to find it not running right and having the dealer tell us there was something wrong with it's 'cadillac convertible' Turns out the catalytic converter was fine but it had a few other issues. After getting a compression test done we worked out a deal where he paid to ship it to Utah and we rented a Jeep to drive home through the snowstorms.

And just recently as you all may know, I traded the lovely, but somewhat troublesome BMW for a '95 Eagle Talon TSI. This was of course for Richard's benefit as the TSI will be a lot cheaper to race and fix then the VR4, which I will be driving :D

How's that for ya Chas? :stickoutt

WOOT Can I post can I?

Not that most of you care but I'm gona list all my awesome cars. I've allways been around cars and allways liked mustangs and vettes. My dad used to race so its in my blood or something.

Cars:
First car was a 197x B210 that I got from somone down the street for $1 I got that when I was 15 and never lisenced it, never realy drove it around either, I donated it to the welding/metal shop at high school but somone stole it and drove it into a ditch.

2nd car was a 1984 Ford Tempo which I was given but it had a blown motor, so I bought another one and my dad helped swap it out, I self tented the windows cause it didn't have ac and thats about it, I drove it till I bought my next car in SoCal in which I parked it and gave it to my parents to give to my little bro for his first car, turns out they thought there friends that were total jackass's were a better option for that car GRRR

in 1999 I bought a 2000 Ford Escort zx2 after winning some money in vegas (when I was 20 hehe) it was turboed. Problem with this car was I litteraly out grew it, I grew ~4" from the time I bought it to the time I sold it.

Next up was a 2000 Mustang v6, I got the v6 for a few reasons one being its cheaper both out the door and insurance the second was I was planning to turbo it also and if I blew a motor I knew I could get another one *new for about 700 bux. thanks to a little gasket matching it dynoed 176 whp and 205 ft/lbs not to bad for a stock v6 (well k&n filter) next came syspension mods and I autoxed for a while. Then nitrous for a quick boost but just after I had finaly bought my turbos I totaled the car driving home from racing.

Having had fun with laughing gas I bought a 96 firbird formula, with only ~600 bux in mods the car ran a 13.01 @113 Not bad eh?
While I still had this car before I did much to it a awesome deal came along on a Cobra (allways liked mustangs and vettes) in AZ that was an awesome deal it had been wreaked but I was going to get it with a clean title for like 1/4 book value, and my dad was in AZ at the time and checked out the car. So I got preappoved for a loan, made a deal and I was going to head down after work on Friday, well Thursday he hadn't called so I got ahold of him, he ended up selling it localy. GOSH.

Sense I had this loan sitting around I had to use it right? So I bought Melissa's dream car under the pretense that I would screw around with it and then she could buy it off me after she got her masters and a realy high paying job. Well not all that went as planned and now she will soon finaly have it all to her self. Its gone through a few motors and realy just been kinda a pita and I made the mistake of wanting to race it, which breaks parts but unfortunaly they aren't cheap to mod or fix. Anyway thats the vr4 for ya soon to be mostly stock.

inbetween then and now I've also bought and had the following.

92 Civic junk yard turbo (ran low 14's at rmr)
96 Integra (nothing special)
91 4runner (still got it)
95 chev 1500 bought these to resale already sold the one
98 chev 1500 these get an awesome 26mpg ;)

Oh I also traded a laptop for a 89 ford probe which although I owned I never drove, and my parents still have it.

and I think thats about it.

Bimmer driver for Life!!!! Grew up with Mercedes around me all my life and look how I turned out. :D

VEHICULARS:

1. 1932 FORD MODEL A ROADSTER
My Dad bought this for me a week after I was born to keep my Mom's mind off of the whole "crib-death" issue going on in the 80's. He told her that I would one day drive the car, my Mom never thought about crib-death again. Won numerous awards with it at local parades. I did eventually drive it, actually learned how to drive a stick with it (not that good, let me tell you). We sold it after my Mom passed away to the guy that owns Diamond rentals. I told my Dad I wanted to deliver it to the guy ( up to this point I had never had taken it out by myself) It was like second nature when I slid into the seat. It was like we were "one" as I parted with her. :( Felt like I had driven the car for years. That is one car I will pursue to get back when I get older, classics rule!!

Ohh the horn was the classic AAAAAWWWUUUUUGGGGAAAAAAA

2. 1982 320i
first "official" car when I turned 16, bought it from my God parents. They are bimmer drivers and Harley riders for life as well. My next door neighbors bought it, I can still see it outside my bedroom window.

-funny story- The car was my God sisters car and one day the sunroof crank broke, leaving the sunroof hanging down an inch or so. She would just take her unused tampons and shove them up inside the gap to raise it back up. I can't wait till someone fixes it!!! :lol

3. 1992 325i
my first car introducing me into the tuner scene. Had a kid that lives down the street from me, that was working for me at the time, approach me about buying it. I never even had the car for sale!!! "show me some cash, then we'll talk." SO he did and I found my myself an M.

4. 1995 M3
Second car I found on Autotrader.com My Dad and I took a plane down to Austin and had an incredible bonding experience with Man, Machine, and Blown tires on the way back. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

5. 1991 325iC
One of my goals was to have a convert. for the winter for a daily driver, I always loved the E30s. Jill and I are taking a drive down State when I say, "I want a white convert, with.........hey just like that one!!" There is a chick driving one right in front of us, I tell her her car is sexy, and she asks me if I want to buy it!! I say pull over, I get her # and the next afternoon I purchase it.

By the way I only owned RED cars up until the M and the convert.
GO BRIGHT OR GO HOME I SAY!!! :redspot
