(Note: This reporter arrived late. The following account is based partially on interviews with those in attendance.) The dA Barbecue, “Celebrating Absolutely Nothing,” was held at the Lange Residence last evening. Following a week of rain and general depression, the weather relented just in time for the barbecue.
The cocktail hour was followed by a delightful buffet of goodies brought by all. Following dinner, Johnny conducted a tour of his world-famous garage where the Dinan Vessel was featured prominently on display.
The program commenced with a panel discussion by Cameron and Johnny, with Scott as moderator, in which Cameron advocated the Mies van der Rohe modernist theory of form follows function in defining what looks “hawt” on a BMW. Johnny countered with a passionate plea in favor of beauty for the sake of beauty. Both engaged in significant Bangle bashing.
To balance the program, Angel led the ladies in a stirring performance demonstrating the beauty of the curves of the BMW, with an emphasis on the large, rear end of Bangle’s new seven series.
During the program’s intermission, the group danced to Tony’s Ipod mix on the 99.5 simulcast arranged specifically for the party. Following the dance, Tony gave a presentation on “Effective Eye Wear – You Only Get Once Chance To Make A First Impression.”
Melissa, in her first dA appearance for some time, led an informative discussion on the finer points of how to school young street racers. She highly recommends the M5 for this purpose, notwithstanding the standard transmission. Her presentation effectively encouraged all of the ladies to be supportive of all modifications, arguing that mods result in a safer vehicle for the entire family and reduce highway risk for society as a whole.
In what is certain to be the most memorable aspect of the evening, Mark gave a visual presentation entitled “A Machinists Guide to the Universe” in which all in attendance were treated to highly memorable visual impressions. Mark’s creative talent, as usual, was in full display.
In a radical departure from many of the wild parties and irresponsible behavior that too often occurs in today’s world, this is one car club that knows how to keep it on topic.
