I don't know if this is normal or not so bare with me. First off, the timing and carbs have been synched, so I don't think thats the problem. I have yet to check valve clearences, but thats next. I start my car up and let it run for alittle bit(No choke installed mind you/ 40'dcoes). I pull out and give it gas. The acceleration in first gear is rough. The way it accelerates is kinda of in a jerkey motion. Also, when I give it full gas(to the floor) it bogs down. It will even bog down just driving normally occasionally. The car is still backfiring quite abit as well, and I know its not the carbs running lean. Overall, it just isn't as smooth as I want it. I know carbs aren't as good as fuel injection, but I didn't think it would be this noticeable. Maybe I need to do a rebuild. Anys suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :cool

Edit: I forgot to add, If I got my red coil running with the pertronix would that alleveate any of this? Also, I have a tii distributor but its not installed, and Im running the vacuum hose from my present distributor to the brake booster hose.

having a tii I don't know crap about the carbs etc. The first thing I always check is the fuel filter -- any time I get bogging under load thats the thing that pops into my head. Also its cheap and easy to fix ;)

edit: Also just a bit of encouragement. I know you are mid-build on a lot of stuff and you seem to be hitting some snags here and there -- just keep the faith. All that stuff will come together and that car will be a screamer. It'll be kicking ass soon dude!!

Sounds like a fuel issue. How is you fuel pressure? Are the floats set properly? Get rid of the vacuum distributor. What condition are cap, rotor and wires in?

Check to make sure that the distributor is working. Adjust the valve timing and check cylinder compression. Off-adjusted Distributor will definitely mess up the performance, I've had the same experience and once I've changed the distributor and properly adjusted it, it can burn rubber now. Carburettor's are fun to drive. And look at your car as an investment and slow restoration, believe me that people always fear 2002s in races.

:cool You guys all sound worried, as if i am going to get rid of it. I still love this car, and I wouldn't sell it for anything, I just what to optimize its performance, cause I know it can still be better. There is a feeling you get from driving one that other people dont get to experience. You feel totally connected to it, and its awesome. I also like meeting all the 2002 people, such as yourselves, you are a great bunch of people. Your always helpful, and I like talking cars with you. Even people you wouldn't expect come over and appreciate your car. So now you can sleep easy :D
