Montoya's engine failures quite often follow his pit stops . . .
After watching Montoya's exciting drive spoiled yet again by a post-pitstop engine failure I decided to do my part to help the BMW-Williams team. I did some interesting research on Montoya's engine failures from last year and this season:
Grand Prix Pit Lap -- Engine Failure Lap
2001
French 50--52
German 22--24
US 36--38
2002
Monaco --47
Canadian 51--56
I'm willing to bet the engine is weakened by thermal stress due to lack of cooling airflow during the pit stop. Once back on the track the weakened engine soon fails.
Whaddaya you guys think?
