I had some OZ's on my WRX. THEY SUCKED.
The clear coat started peeling...they bent at the slightest sign of a pothole...
They are gone now.

I'd do these. 5 pounds heavier then the 0Z at 24 lbs each but still on the light side for 18s and about the same price.

get the OZ's over the ASA's. Heavy wheels suck.

Those are the ugliest wheels I've ever seen.

LTWs > OZs

ATTENTION MAKR: If you get any wheel or tires through tirerack let me know I have a direct account through them, I also (Geoff I didn't know you wanted new wheels at the time) have a factory account through BBS, yes I said BBS, but give me some notice, one of my clients brothers works at the BBS factory. :eyecrazy

I have been satisfied with my 17x8 OZ Superleggera's. Finish has held up fine, they have stayed straight despite many hammerings out at Wendover and many tire changes, and they are light. Plus, they will easily allow for a BBK if I'm ever inclined to purschase such a thing.

Maybe not the greatest looking (I don't think they are that bad), but function wins over form anyways for me.

Im still for teh Breyton or ACS's.

Ya, if I was going for looks I would get something else as well. I tend to think in autocross/racing terms when it comes to mods!

The sad state the majority of this group is in...

:(

Racecars look cooler than bling street cars. Just knowing a part is lightweight, strong, built to last, purposeful, etc makes it hotter in my book than any street bling part. A racecar just looks like it's going to kick your ass sitting stationary. Bling cars are just that. Bling. They don't have any special talents.

ACS, Breyton, Giovanni, Konig, etc. All the same in my book. No good for what i do.

Now, on a budget; anything you can get your hands on works. I like the 8.5's on my car right now. They're 17x8.5, balanced, and shod with big tires and that's all I care about. :cool

You own a BMW JB. Not a Honda. I don't know if you happened to notice, but there is a certain level character that is associated with the BMW that other vehicles do not carry. Character, body lines, styling, it all amounts to bling or "the look". I'm sorry, but when it comes to looks, a BMW screams style and therefore should not be "flattened" with some hum-drum "Fast and Furious" style. Now, this is not to say that an extra set of "race wheels" for the track would not be a appropriate.

JB never comes to the races anyway :(

Cort's Civic street car (well it is his daily driver) ran 9's last night at RMR.

With wheels you can definitely have it all (IMO) light, strong, and good looking.

Be sure to ckick on the picture of the 8 at the lower right ... mmmmm.

Remember, you, Geoff, and Cameron are the richest guys I know. You drive BMWs, you must be rich right?

Ummm, yea that's me. Daddy war bucks.

ASA - best bang for the buck with style/lighter weight/streetability

Never used OZ but I can warn you to stay away from SSR for street use. Ran them on the DSM for a bit and if you think about a pot hole you bend a rim.

Actually, I drive a BMW because of the way it drives.

and next to Porsche, BMW is one of the most raced cars ever. BMWCCA club racing, NASA, and SCCA owns you.

The season just started guys, I will come to races GEEZ! It'n not even started yet!

Never comes to the races... :rolleyes

I drive one becasue it makes me look like a rich pimp and is thus easier to pick up chicks.

I race one bacuse the better car makes up for poor driver skill.

I wish I knew how to race, or had the money to race.

I drive an M3 because it feels like I'm driving a damn Race car right on the street, and I think the car's 'look" inspires an emotional reaction, at least in me. I hope that my heavy contours dont looks like "bling" to joshie.

Those OZ's look like ass, but if they are lightweight and your only purpose is to cut wieght, then go for it! For some reason I thought that the general consensus for E36 was that 17" was the optimal wheel diameter for track.

30 bucks for a non SCCA member to come kill cones. RMR will be 20 for a number your first time out, and then 25 to race each week.

Cheap. Cheap. Cheap.

As for knowing how.

Drive Fast
Don't hit the cones
Have fun

Getting better just comes with doing more and more of it.

With all this talk of lightweight rims we have forgotten who these rims are for. If anyone needs more weight in his vehicle, it is the Makr.We should be encouraging more weight, not less. His insurance company will thank you for it.

I was thinking about getting a set of these.

They use a hollow spoke design to save weight and they still look pretty good.

Which should one do first? SCCA or Drag?

chmdrm
05-02-2005, 12:25 PM
While both need driver skills, drag (and the street tire braket racing that RMR does) is a bit more geared toward the car, and thus first timers with a good car, can win if they get lucky.

So doing better out of the box can make it more fun. I also like the social aspect of drag racing as when you are not running you are just hanging out in the pits.

SCCA I found more fun but I've done less off it so maybe just the newness to it. A good car however, tends to just put you in a class with people who are have a ton more seat time, and thus the chances of winning first few times out are much lower. Also much less social time as when you are not running you are working the course.

So .... Drag racing is a fun way to see what the car will do, hang out with a bunch of car guys etc. etc.

Auto Cross is a fun way to see what the driver can do, but time is limited when it comes to seeing other cars / people.

Nice. I think you made up my mind...

Now, the deciding factor....................can you smuggle booze into RMR, for after the racing fun??? :D

chmdrm
05-02-2005, 12:35 PM
They sell beer in the stands but you are not allowed bringing it into the pits.

They also ALWAYS have a ton of cops around watching people leave. Kids tend to leave a bit wound up and bet they give 3 to 5 tickets out after each race to people hot rodding out of the parking lot.
