Any of you guys have any experience doing a background check on a perspective renter? I want to be extremely thorough in my homework on this one. I don’t want to be put thru a situation like Eric just went thru if at all possible. I’ve got the guy on the hook at $1700 per month and I’m shooting for a $1500 deposit. Don’t know what else I should do to hedge my bets on this venture…..
Any advice?

I would also do a walkthough of the property with pictures and make him sign off on the condition of the property. You can get background checks done online and also buy legal forms for renting the property.

what that asian guy said, or you can hire a CO. to do all the background check for a nominal fee. jeff, collect first and last months rent and hefty deposit. thats what i did with the first tennats, they were awesome people. this one checked ok too, but didnt have the full funding. but i the truth was it was for the kids to live in, but now her credit is ruined too

Thanks fo rthe offer Steph. The guy trying to rent my house had a stolen id, someone elses social. I thought something was strange so I probed a little myself and uncovered some inconsistancies, so I ask some questions to the guy and his phone cut off and now he won't respond to my voicemails?
