View Full Version : Tire rub - inner fender - more prevalent on driver's side?

I've noticed that my tires only seem to rub on the driver's side inner fender bottom by the frame rail when I hit my driveway. I've tried coming at the driveway from the other side, same speed and no rub from the pass tire. Is the clearance on the driver's side less by design, or is this just maybe an age, wear, alignment issue unique to my car?

I have E30 14x5.5 steel wheels with 185/65-14 tires. (I like the look with the 185/65 better than the look with 185/60 or 175/65 tires.)
Car is not lowered except for removal of the strut spacers.
Original springs and strut bearings, which may be a factor.

I am considering persuading/rolling that bottom edge inward towards the frame rail to ease the rub point so it's not a sharp sheet metal edge. Any reason I shouldn't do this?

Also, i have wanted to install new strut bearings and aftermarket springs, but this rubbing make me think it would only get worse.

Check the alignment on your front end; may be culprit. If OK, there is no obvious reason why you can't roll the fenders.

Your driver side might rub because of your weight (150-250 pounds) on that side..although i usually rub on my passenger side w/ nobody in it..which doesnt make much sense lol..but maybe thats why?

If its not alignment and it is not a coil spring check No11 on the picture.
