hey guys, i am new here and would like to say hello. i am interested in buying some type of diagnostic tool for my 95 325is. is it worth the extra money to invest in software for my computer, or should i buy a code reader/reset tool. are there any differences between the two? i think the coolness factor is pointing to the software, but i dont want to spend extra for something i dont need.

Quick answer, the software appears to cover just about all the electronic systems in the car besides engine. ABS, HVAC, airbags etc. The code reader is going to cover just the powertrain fault codes or airbags if you get the adapter.
Main thing if you get the software do you have the experience, training and tools to make proper use of it? I didnt see a price but Im sure its expensive.

Use the money to buy a cold air intake and check your fault codes using this link since you have OBD I

thanks for the response. the software that i linked was an example, i have seen similar packages for around $250-300. i would like to hear some comments on different types of tools. i would like a tool that gives a clear indication of problems that is easy to use and accurate. i have tried the gas pedal method, but was wondering if the software or reader gives better readings.

Does the Peake tool tell you any more than the gas pedal method though??
