My engine is moving around quite a it, the motor mounts seem pretty beat. Is it possible to change them without having to lift out the motor? How hard are they to replace? I think Bavauto has some....

Pretty much every parts house should have them. They aren't hard to change at all, just search the FAQ forum for a writeup on them. Ireland has some nice looking urethane ones, too.

My engine seems to move around a bit more than it should. Keep us posted as to where you get the parts, price and installation.

keep in mind these engines are supposed to move quite a bit -- if you don't see any real damage on the mounts they might be fine

On the other hand.....
Motor mounts are so easy to change (relatively speaking anyway) that if they are suspect of not being up-to-snuff, you are well served in changing them.

I did mine a while back when I was having some work done otherwise to the car. I installed E12 engine mounts (if I recall correctly) and an E30 trans mount. Those still let the engine move as it wants to but keeps things much tighter. The only thing to be careful is when installing the engine mounts is that the distributor cap gets REAL close to the firewall overhang when you have the engine rotated to get the right mount removed and installed.

I didn't want to go to urethane. The OE (other model) ones work just great.

They also increased the clearance the fan has to the aft face of the rad. I was 'pinky' close before I changed them (never hit anything though). After the new ones were installed, I have a good 'thumb' distance there.

Just some info for you.

YMMV as usual. Good luck.

A test is to poke the rubber bits with a screwdriver. If they are really soft and squishy (like oil soaked mush), or if they're cracked probably replace them.

Mine were bad, and I replaced them with the afforementioned Ireland urethane ones, and I have to say I couldn't be happier with them! I like them a lot because the stock ones let the engine move around a lot. Even with a mild cam (284) the car at idle is very smooth.
