View Full Version : Paint Costs? ///MDriver 04-26-2005, 10:07 PM How much would you guys say a full body paint job in non-metallic paint would cost? I mean from a reputable shop with all the old paint stripped off. Lets say on a 318ti. Sparkybmw420 05-25-2005, 07:27 PM around 3000 dollars ///MDriver 05-25-2005, 11:03 PM you should have waited until tomorrow, it would have been a full month gota525i 05-25-2005, 11:26 PM you should have waited until tomorrow, it would have been a full month HAAHAHAHAHA :lol. ///MDriver 05-26-2005, 08:53 AM I don't even remember why I asked kartman 05-26-2005, 11:23 PM Between $3000.00 and $5000.00 for a proper job. Have checked into this with several reputable body shops. guarddog 05-26-2005, 11:30 PM The best I have seen from a reputable shop is $2500. Most are around $3,000 to $5,000. Make sure its a reputable shop and look at previous work and talk to people who have sent stuff there before. One shop here did a $3,000 paint job, but it was chipping within a few months of the owners car--he was pissed. How bad a shape is the paint? A professional detailer can do magic if its not chipped or deep scratches to the primer. guarddog 05-26-2005, 11:32 PM On that note, if you're brave, you could try it yourself. That's what I'm doing. You can buy a used turbine paint sprayer (so you don't need a high volume compressor) for around $375 to $600 w/ gun. *having second thoughts on the turbine paint sprayer, because I had to buy a large air compressor for the Dual Action Sander. ($350 for the two stage air compressor from Sears..its the MINIMUM you need. Two stage is mucho better than single stage.) I've thought about this alot, and there are different ways of doing it. You can have a professional shop strip the paint for about $500-$600, so you would only need the turbine paint sprayer and not the air compressor. But if you bought the air compressor you could do touch up work, and in the end own a nice air compressor which is awesome for air tools. Anyway, things to think about if you go that route of painting it yourself. If its black, you can paint pieces at a time, like start with the hood. See home it comes out, then move to fenders (remove them), etc., etc. If you have 220volt outlet then you're set, you can buy a high volume TWO STAGE compressor for around $650-850. But you'll need to buy a paint gun and accessories--but in the end you'll have a kick-ass air compressor.) Buy a full tent from Costco or Harbor Freight for around $180-$200, then a tarp for underneath. Or you can build your own, but I'm going with the tent. www.paintucation.com is a good website for this kind of information. $3,000 buys you a lot of nice equipment. Just a thought... vipautorepair 06-03-2005, 07:02 AM I own a repair shop. Why do you want to strip the old paint off of the car? If the paint is not in that bad of shape, or has too many layers it can be painted on top of with a sealer to bury the old paint. Anyways, 3,000 stripped is about the right price. Metallics are not that expensive, pearls are semi pricey. |
