Hello everyone, I've been looking around this forum for a while, but I think this is the first time posting in this forum.

I've been looking for 510's and 2002's for a little while now.. not totally sure which one I want to get yet.
I have some concerns with the cost of restoring and operating a 2002. I know a litlte about 510's, where it is generally pretty cheap to restore and maintain and upgrade, but is quite expensive and hard to locate when purchasing parts for the body.

Is it pretty much the same for 2002's? I looked around the Ireland site and found that most parts are not too expensive..

Are there any faq sites that will help me in looking for and purchasing a 2002?(I already know of www.2002faq.com).

One more thing.. Will you guys hate me if I swap in a CA18DET motor into a 2002? The CA18DET is a 1.8 liter, iron block(but is still pretty light), turbo charged motor out of a Japanese Nissan 180sx.

2002's are everywhere, you just need to find one with a good body and bad mechanicals. The 2002 FAQ and here are pretty much the only 2 forums for the 02's, except Roadfly, but I don't know how ofen it is used anymore.

Depending on what parts you are looking for they are usually reasonably priced. They have interchangable parts with E21's and a few parts can be used from E30's.

As far as putting that motor in a 2002, some people will probably get mad but other will think it is a great idea. I've actually seen one other 02 with a Nissan motor in it, although it wasn't turbo'd,

I say go for it and keep us up to date on the progress.

-I wouldn't hate you that bad. It may be worth a try; I've not heard of anyone doing that before. An sr20det maybe a slicker setup!

ya.. SR is definitely a cool motor.. but also more expensive to initially purchase. It is also a bit bigger.. AND have a lot more readily availible parts for it..

And on top of that.. I have the CA motor already in my car.. along with a bunch of supporting mods.. so that really helps stuff out.

any tips on what to look for(besides ordinary stuff) when looking at 2002's?

There are some rare parts some 02's -- those close ratio steering boxes are worth $$ -- look for an orange one
